Hi. Im looking forward to buy a laptop for University. Im just a fan of Brothers in arms and PAcific Fighters.

    I have two questions

1.- is there much difference (weight and size) between a 17" and a 15,4" laptop?

2.- I dont know if this is "legal" to ask, but need assistance: will a Mobility Radeon X1600 be capable to run Unreal Engine 3 (Brothers in arms 3) at 1024 x 768, high - medium settings, no AA, no AF at 40 or so fps??

PLEASE NEED YOUR HELP BEFORE 29th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Love U

The X1600 is a very powerful card. The only ones that are on laptops that are better is the 7900gs and the X1800.. Maybe the X1900 on alienwares but I can't remember.... grr I don't think so.

If you filled out the FAQ we could help you better.

The 17 inch will not fit in a backpack.. the 15.4 will. You pretty much need a full sized duffle bag to carry a 17 inch in..

Yes, anything bigger than 15.4 is huge, and not recommended for college.

    The average 15.4" weighs around 5 - 6.6lbs.

The average 17" weigh in average of 7.5+lbs.

Yes, the X1600 256mb should be able to that, it is a good card.

    A X1600, 7600, 7900, cards are comparable to a desktop 6800GT.

a 17 inch laptop is WWWAAAYYY too big for collage, plus it will get hot and have horrable battery life, but one with a 7600/x1600 would be fine, if not alittle heavy. it will not get as hot, but will still be great for gaming, you will be able to play at great settings and good resalution.

I got a 17 inch for college, but I'm not gonna be carrying it around to classes, so what's the big deal? Even when I do carry it, it's not too heavy. And just for the record, it easily fits into the backpack I have.

Talking about 17" laptops, have you looked at Toshiba's P105-S9312? It is 17" and features a GeForce 7900gs, but it fairly light and thin for a 17" notebook with those kinds of capabilities. It might be a good compromise.

The laptop X1600 and 7600 are much closer to a desktop 6800 (vanilla) than 6800gt.

Hate to nit pick buy 7900 cant put in the same class as the x1600 and 7600. The 7800 is a little closer (but in my opinion is still too much of a step above to be classified with those cards).

It depends on how you intend to use it. If you're going to be taking it with you a lot, then I would recommend a 14.1" or 15.4" gaming laptop.

If it will mainly be on your desk, then a 17" would be fine. But 17" laptops are quite large and when I had one I didn't really want to take it anywhere.

The x1600 and go 7600 are great GPUs. But at 17", I personally would step up to the go 7900 GS or go 7900 GTX for the extra power.

I love 17" lappys! I have one too for school and gaming. My lappy weight is 3.8kg (8.4lbs) and i don't have much problems carrying it. It isn't that heavy! (I'm no muscle man!)

I would love your lappy too :D .

I'm not saying that the 17" was way too big to take around at all. It's just that the bulk of it may discourage you from taking it around as much as say a 15.4" or even 14.1" system.

The big screen is defintely nice! You just need to decide on what you need it for and how you'll be using it.
