i own Pavilion 6580ec with 8400M GS - when i start
NVIDIA nTune a see 400Mhz Core and 400Mhz Memory clock - but default by nvidia.com is 400/600 so I ask why I have only 400 Memory clock.
When I move slider to 600Mhz a press APPLY button the slider turns back to 400Mhz - this do every program that I tryied (RivaTuner,Prostrip, AtiTool). I think ist some lock or protection on card.
Can someone help me ?![]()

hp downclocks their cards
-
what drivers do you have. You should check out laptopvideo2go and get some new ones as you might have some that dont allow it
and clocking it up to 600 is a lil high, try doing it in steps, seeing what works, you dont want to burn out your card. -

now i have unofficial/unsupported Nvidia drivers 169.17 and the result was same... -
try the 169.04 as the are known to be the best for overclocking and preformnce

I need to know it is possible to overclock 8400M GS to nvidia factory defaults on HP Pavilion notebooks... and when it is possible how to do ? -
Nvidia.com posts their defualt clock rates on the 8400M GS with DDR3 memory. You may have the DDR2 version of the card wich usually comes stock at 400/400 and is only capable of a ballpark 500/500 overclock.
You also need to make sure your drivers are capable of OC'ing. As other have said, check laptopvideo2go for one of the 169.xx drivers. -
when i move slider - press apply - clock returns to default. - I need to know it is possible to clock (under/over) because it seems nearly impossible.
edit: this is fake from HP - wrong CLOCKS, wrong memory capacity, a i hope there is no wrong because I so nervous by that findings. BUT still I want to OC - help me how to remove the card protection for OC or sme. -
maybe you should just yell at the HP tech support because you didn't get the laptop you ordered.
Return it and get another one? -
Im so GRRR (censored)
... this is additional information: check and help it is possible_

you have the ddr2 version of the card... which means HP hasn't downclocked the card. It runs stock 400/400. An increase to 500/500 should be obtainable. Get the 176.44 driver (works best for me) and the newest version of RivaTuner x.21. Then you should be good to go...
