hey.. I just got my new laptop today and its great..
i installed cs on it, but the fps is only 60 ? i've already deactivated the vsync and yes my fps_max is 100 and the same with my fps_modem.. cs is running fine but the players is like lagging a bit around - pretty annyoing.. im sure this can be fixed, my comp should be able to run cs at 100 fps... look at my signature for the specs..
i noticed that my screen refresh rate is 60 Hz and it can't be changed!! oh well.. it can, but then theres a chance of burning off some of the hardware...

only 60
and you do know movies run at 23 Frames per second.. Your eyes can't even tell the diffrence above 25 - 30ish. -
Ah, but with cs 1.6 every frame counts
. I would check into some new nvidia drivers for your 7600. I use Mobileforce at tweaksrus.com. I run at the 100fps cap on 1.6, so I don't know what is wrong with your computer.

i can tell the difference between 25 and 30. 25 to me is ugly
-
It's funny how a lot of people are disgusted by anything less than 60 FPS in some games. Then Oblivion comes out and suddenly everyone considers 20 FPS playable. I don't get it... -
*well its either put up with 20 FPS and say it looks great or admit you'r laptop/desktop is out of date and sucks*
-
The business about not being able to detect above 25fps is nonsense. TV pictures naturally have motion blur, which prevents them seeming horrible jerky. Games don't do this so need to run at a much higher framerate to seem smooth. Play a first person shooter at 60fps and wobble the mouse around a bit. Notice the smoothness? Cap the framerate to 30fps then try the same. I guarantee you'll notice a difference.

Ok after abit of reviewing i admit i was wrong. But still .. 60 FPS apparently is acceptable.
"An average 17" monitor can reach 85 Hz, meaning that any performance reached by the game over 85 fps is redundant."
Same apparently goes for your laptop. -
what settings are you running in game? my notebook runs CS at 72 FPS, and it plays like silk.
pb,out. -
well... the highest setting i guess ..
im a widescreener
but i dont think its because it cant run anything above 60 fps.. i think something is preventing it from doing it - and im serious.. its like its fixed at 60 fps !! i'll try to figure it out tomorrow..
-
check your settings in game, and post back..also check if you are running something that will change video settings outside the game...if you run both at max settings, you will take a big hit in performance.

What kind of computer is that?

Don't know if this would help but i switched from a geforce 420mx 7 year old desktop to a inspiron E1705 with geforce go 7800, from 60 fps on UT 2004 i jumped to a 330fps on offline, when i go online i see that i only can get 60fps and the image gets blurry little lagging, i ask alot of ppl din't know how to help me, so i kept playing and my fps rise up to 85fps then to 100fps then go limitless, no idea why or how this caps works i just know they suck.

That's a pretty nice system for a ****py case...

if its locked at 60fps you probably have vsync on either in the nvidia drivers or ingame, on my mainstream PC my LCD's refresh rate is 60hz so I have my vsync on as frame rates over 60 are only any good for benchies and could cause screen tearing effect
-
-
Just pointing out that the fact that you can't set your monitor above 60Hz is perfectly normal. 99% of LCD's out there run@60Hz and nothing else. The reason CRT's have higher settings is because CRT's flicker and LCD's do not. Hence they don't need to be refreshed as often.
fps is how many frames you computer calculates per second, but a LCD will always display 60. If vsync is enabled, it will repeat frames if there are not enough or skip frames if there are not enough. If vsync is disabled, the screen will always display the 'latest' information, resulting in frames where the upper part is t_frame_1 and the lower t_frame but still only with 60 frames displayed per second. -
turn off vsync in the opengl section of the nvidia drivers, that is your problem, common with graphics and windows xp, reverting back to 60hz(even say if your running 85hz on a 17" CRT) when going into full screen application

to me as long as i can't notice the "jitters" of a low framerate i dont care. I usually run my games at low settings anyways even if i have more than enough power to run it a notch or two higher because i dont care about all the eye candy.
