Hi, i was wondering if there was a way i could download the half life 2 demo with out having to use Steam. If you could post a link of a site where I could download it that would be great. Thanks in advance.

I don't believe so because the Half Life files are in proprietary format that only steam can read (If i'm not mistaken).

Yeah, Steam is the way to go. No more "Insert CD To play" crap :D

Also, It's extremely nice to be able to download steam on any PC and log into my account, then double click on a game and it download it right then and there, no questions asked. It makes it possible to play the same game on 15 different computers (Not at the same time, obviously). Steam is definately the PC gaming of the future.

i've heard stories where innocent people's accounts have been locked out, making any game bought through steam unplayable. Using steam means valve has total control over your game access. Not saying steam is a bad thing, i just don't use it.

As far as I know (Been using Steam for 2+ years now) Steam has been very good about recovering steam accounts. Now there are people who will change their name to "STEAM" and send you a message saying some BS thing like "We need your password and username to verify who you are", just be smart about it. Hell even when you hack in a game all they do is VAC ban you, they don't actually take the account away from you.

Back when I installed Half-Life 2, yeah, at that point Steam was a boob...the last 2 years have been a real treat though! Steam rocks my socks A+++++.

EDIT (Haha, I reread that, makes me sound like I don't speak English and am trying to sell some sort of boob enhancement)
