I just installed Ep. 2 from Orange box. I tried to started, but it says it'll start in 3 hours (!!!). I unchecked the automatic upload system, but still. Anyway, what it might take 3 hours to upload? the whole game? Then what is using 7 Gb of space in my HD?
I swear, I'm about to make a call and get it pirate for $5.

was this purchased on steam or dvd?

Is this the first time you have installed steam? Yeah, the updates are annoying.

Not cool, go to the gym for 3 hrs or something, I mean I don't think it's that big of a deal. :p

the whole of the orange box (all 5 games) is about 8gb in size but well worth the download wait. do it overnight while you are asleep.
that still sounds quite a long time. i tink mine took just under an hour to download.

First time after formated my PC. Is this a new steam c..? I don't remember last time having to wait so much.
I got it from DVD, and it is already using 7 Gb of HD.

Well, I don't know if Steam have the right of telling me what to do with the games I payed for. And then, the temptation of getting the fake one: $5, no need for internet connection, no wait. Sounds better than the Gym idea. Thanks for the cheer up anyways.

Good luck downloading 8 GB in 3 hours.

Did you consider that it's your connection that's too slow and that's why it's taking so long.

    I'm downloading at 150 kb/sec.
I don't think is so slow.

You know, Crysis was the most pirated game of history. The reason, I have an idea:
    Steam.

    8GB @ 150 KB/s = 15 hours.

If you're just getting EP1, which is a smaller download, then it's perfectly reasonable for it to take almost 4 hours.

It was pirated so everybody could benchmark their GPUs, not to actually play it.

That sounds like a slow connection; my steam downloads are in the 500 kbps range... (cable connection)

Episode 1 is not Episode 2, it doesn't even run on the orange box engine, it uses the older version of the source engine, so installing Ep. 2 will not also install Ep. 1.

i dont see why this is such a big deal... you did not have it installed, so you are installing it, and this is a process that takes... umm... time.

    and this bothers you?

if you want to back up your game to a disc for faster reinstall, you can do it easily from within steam.

steam is actually considered a great service by many and it definitely does not contribute to piracy. quite the opposite actually. and you have your facts mixed up about the timeline with crysis, its piracy, and steam.

if you plan on reinstalling or reformatting often, i recommend you back up your steam games to dvd, especially considering your connection speed. i usually download steam games at about 1 MB / sec or more (at my university) and the wait is never a big deal.

How can they be fully backed up? That actually would be great, I didn't know it was possible.

To backup the games, open up steam, right click a game, and select backup game files.

It will then let you select which of your games you want to backup, and if you want to break it down into CD or DVD sized files, or a custom size. Then just burn the files to a disc, put em on an extra hard drive, or however you want to store them.
