HL2:EP2 Trailer#2

So, of those of you who've seen it, what do you think? I personally think its looks amazing. I remember reading this before, but it looks like there is a ton of strider and hunter combat, along with tons of ant lion combat. It appears that you even enter an ant lion nest in the game. The new facial textures look great, and the new ant lion exploding effects look cool, I wonder if you can get splatered by it, like it gets on your face, then fades. But one thing thats been bugging me about HL2 games not having. Dynamic light, like if im in a dark hall way, and I fire my gun, the flash dosent light up the room. I really wish they add that. But yeah what do you guys think of it?

 

I love the new exploding effects that they added to that building, the stiders, and the ant lions.

When firing a weapon it casts light, just not shadows.

 

They've added Dynamic Lighting into the Half Life 2 engine for the upcoming Episode 2, so expect all new lighting effects. About time too, the lighting system in HL2 was the one thing holding it back.

Oh and those exploding Ant Lions will spray acid blood when they burst, so best to keep your distance and not get to close to get splattered.

 

Gah... Odds are it will be borring like episode 1.

Where did you hear that they will spray acid blood on you? If its true I guess no more smashing ant lions with your crow bar, that was alot of fun. But exploding them with a shotgun is still alot of fun.

Now I heard about the new 2 seater buggy they're introducing, and that you can have a "gunner" in it. And that there is a new "strider buster" weapon, which looked to make an appearance in the trailer. I know that its like a sticky bomb that takes away its energy or something. But it looked like it did so much that the player in the trailer was able to destroy a strider with the SMG!? Does anyone know how it works? But yeah that should even the odds a bit dont you think?

And the new hunters, I never saw the player in the trailer shoot a single round at them, even when it was like 3 feet away and he had a shot gun. Are they immune to small arms? or would it just take so many shots that it wouldnt matter? I mean I would think they could be killed like an ant lion guard, they cant be any stronger then them right?

 

What do you have aginst EP1? yeah it was a bit short, but the 3 episodes are ment to add up to 1 game. I loved "Low Life" where your in the dark, and you have to aim for alyx with your light, then the battery issue, it was a bit diffiuclt in places, and alot of fun.

 

Trailer #2 is really nice. Dog vs Strider.. Woooo boy!!

Yeah that portal game looked very interesting. that game will get hard very fast, and take some very creative people to finish it. I dont think im one of them. But like and Gary's Mod did, im sure it will make for some very very cool google videos!

Yeah that dog vs. strider scene will look very cool. This game just looks packed with tons of combat. I mean look at the veriety of situations and settings we've seen in the trailer. I have a feeling this is going to be a good one.

 

Look at the Eps as the classic 3 part drama; beginning, middle, end.

Ep 1 was the short wrapup of HL2, and the inroduction and fleshing out of a new plot. So Ep2 will be more action oriented as we get deeper into the conflict of the new plot and build the story. There are two ways the climax could go at this point, either Alyx dying (as looks in so many videos we've seen) or some other bigger event that no one sees coming. Which, I predict will be a huge cliffhanger ending to Ep2. Then in Ep3 we get a resolution to the climax, then a wrap up to the current plotline. And possible hint/intro of new things for further games.

One video I've seen from a German game convention has the player throwing objects at them. had to chuck several objects at one before it diedt.

 

Yeah, thats how its going to go. But all this about alyx dying is just speculation, I hope she dosent. But if you look at the part in EP1 where mossman is on the monitor, and her base gets attacked by the hunters, then we see it from issac kliner's view in the trailer, I think its possible that mossman has already died in EP1, and we just dont know it yet. But I guess we wont know how things will turn out untill its released.

 

Oh yeah I know they're going to be tough, I didnt know they had a gun untill trailer 2. I though they were juse melee, and like little scouts for the striders, which they are. But apparantly they have 2 combine energy rifle type things that shoot out of its eyes, that should make it even more interesting. But what were they throwing at it, grenades? or just random objects.

BTW I found a cool thing to throw in Lost Coast today. If you pick up the fishermans harpoon, it points outwards as you hold it. Throw it with the GG and it will impale the combine, like a giant hot steel rod crossbow. And yeah its alot of fun to stick guys to walls with that thing. But about EP2, do you know how the "strider buster" is intended to work Elminst?

No clue about the buster. I haven't seen a lot of videos. I can give you the links to the ones from the german game convention if you want. most of them were on youtube. But they don't really show much of it.
