as the core of desktop and laptop 8600 gt are same....but the clocks speeds r different, overclocking will make the difference in games(fps) quite comparable to a desktop card..which basically means improved performance.... :)

i hav tried with rivatuner, ati tool and now even powerstrip, the prob is that the sliders which i move 2 oc simply slide back to original settings as i click apply.
this could be the drivers issue...maybe my drivers just dont allow oc.......so the question is which ones do??

    i tried a 3 drivers,with 3 different OCing tools still no luck..
i found 158.22 best with the stock clockspeeds in xp in terms of fps in the CS:S stress test.

PS:if u find something useful pls do tll me

cannonball, many other people have the same problem.
I cant overclock my 8400m gs with 158xx series drivers either. It seems like you cannot overclock in XP with any drivers above the 100xx series, which came stock for me (101.28). I read in another post people were able to overclock 163.44 but that is supposedly for XP 64 bit OS

    Follow this guide

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=160237

There is a lot of success, its bios level over clocking which means you can keep the over clock with any driver. Also explains how to make a backup of original bios so that if something goes wrong or you want your stock clocks back you can do so

use either 167.26 or 169.01 drivers and riva tuner(latest version) to overclock!
