    Hi there

I have a problem playing TF2. The game starts normal enough but then it slows down to a crawl and the sound gets messed up to. I can shoot down the game but I have to reboot the computer because the whole OS (win xp) is unresponsive after the game "crashes" like that.

I've been using the Quadro drivers from jan provided by HP but I tried the GeForce Drivers, 156.83, 163.71, 169.21 with the modded inf so that they'll install on the my Quadro. The system is fine with the GeForce drivers and my other games playes well, Sins of a Solar Empire.

I've read that some AntiVirus treats Steam as male ware. I'm using Zone Alarm's Security Suite which uses the Kasperesky Anti Virus engine that was reported by Steam to interrupt Team Fortress 2. Shutting down the Anti Virus and FW didn't change anything, the game still crashed.

    Your comments appreciated :)

    Simon

Better add here that I'm using 4GB of ram, 2 sticks as some folks have reported issues on the Lenovo's T61p when using two sticks, think my HP has the same mobo.
    I'm also running Win XP.

    Thanks

Try deleting all of your NVIDIA drivers. I've had success with Driver Sweeper .

Do this in SAFE MODE. The reason you do this is to ensure all of the drivers you have used don't get mixed up and cause problems.

It's possible your machine is having problems because of all the drivers you have tried.

Also if you use the "INF" mod make sure you delete any other computer coding that is usually included in the "INF" mod. You should only use the "INF" code that is related to your notebook.

After all the NVIDIA drivers are deleted run CCLEANER to fix the registry and other odds and ends files. http://www.ccleaner.com/

Lastly install the driver that you want to use.

    This might fix it.

It may be that oddball RAM problem that I've read of. I havn't had any problems with my 2x2GB of RAM.

Sometimes mixing RAM will cause problems too. Best to get a dual channel set.

If the RAM isn't compatible it will cause problems as well.

I recently added The Orange Box to my game collection and have been playing it on the T61p with no problems. It plays great.

Lenovo stock NVIDIA drivers and 174.31 drivers work well with the T61p and FX 570m.

    Hi SonDa5.

    Thanks for the reply.

I'll be darn, after doing what you suggested and downloading ccleaner and doing all the reboots and with a fresh set of drivers and still the problem persist. I ran MEMTEST and no errors. I finally removed one of the DIMMS and voila! No problems running Team Fortress 2. I was kind a disappointed, I was hoping it was a driver issue etc. Now I just have a new problem because I want to have PLENTY of ram in my PC as I keep shed loads of windows and apps running while I'm working and the extra ram does make everything smoother.

Strange thing is that everything was very stable right unint TM2.

UPDATE: After 2 hours of more playing I got the same crawldown. This also happens Doom3, so it's not the DIMM :(

Sorry to hear you're having the same problem I'm having with this series. I've pinned down the problem to something that has to do with Direct3d, I have the problem in World of Warcraft and Warhammer: Online as well. At first I thought it was GPU was overheating but I have a couple of these laptops at work and tried another one and got the same results.

So with a completely new machine I wiped the drive and installed just the base OS with SP3 and only windows updates that don't have anything to do with Direct3d (if you look there is one that came out a little while ago that I thought was the culprit, but I have the same problem even without it.) At first it ran fine, I was able to play CS and some TF2 just fine but I played WoW for about an hour or so and I was right back in the same boat. I am currently on version 6.14.11.163 of the Nvidia driver software.

Tomorrow I'm going to try leaving SP3 off of the machine and seeing what I get from it. Other than that I don't have anything left. I can't think of a single thing that has been updated other than steam itself that would be causing this issue.

By the way, I talked to an HP customer tech rep and his first response was, "This is a business class laptop, are you sure this laptop is rated for these programs". I thought that was an interesting answer... I told him umm yeah considering the Quadro is Nvidia's answer to ATI's firegl line. I did post on the HP site and people with the 87XX series of this laptop with the better Quadro card are having the same problems. So it seems it probably something with the Driver. They also told me not to put SP3 on the laptop because, "None of the HP drivers have been created for SP3 yet." Good Game HP....

Ok so from reading the forums on HP sites here seems to be the fix for this.
Use bios v.11 and version 174 or the original 101 version. So far I have played for a good amount of time and had no problems and I also see a lot better frame rates. Go to the HP site to download your bios and graphics cards updates.
