    Hello!!

    Would I be better getting:

    1) NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8400M with upto 895 MB (128 MB dedicated)
    2) NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 7600 with upto 512 MB (dedicated)

    Thanks,
    Stephen

    Hey Stephen

    1) the 8400m is somewhat performing around or less than go7400 but supports directX 10. Its the weakest dedicated card that supports Dx10 therefore
NOT SUITABLE FOR GAMES! but excellent choice for those who dont play.

    2)
go 7600 performs slightly less than 8600 GS but will play any game that you throw at it though dont expect max settings on new games(Oblivion, Bioshock)
Definitely a must between these to if you are a GAMER!

The 8400M GS is a weak card. If possible, try to find a dv95XX with an 8600M GS, which is about the same as the Go 7600.

I wouldn't make it sound that harsh. The 8400m GS performs better than the Go7400 which was widely used to game. It can actually handle Oblivion at 800x600 on mid settings, though I do agree that the 7600 Go will perform much better.

You have a few things mixed up.

The GeForce 8400M is a mid-range video card. The "M" stands for "Mobile". There are three versions of the 8400M; the 8400M-G, the 8400M-GS, and the 8400M-GT.
The first laptop you posted is the 17" dv9500t. Its 8600M-GS is considerably more powerful than the Go7600. £1,099.99 is a hell of a lot of money though. Have you considered other brands? Perhaps you would be interested in completing our FAQ in the What Should I Buy forum so we can give you some recommendations.

    hey sb123
before plunking for something sold through DSG group check the likes of DABS, and for budget laptops with 8600m GS 256mb on board pcnextday (zoostorm notebooks)
great for gaming on a budget, my nephew just got a zoostorm and it outperforms my x1400 acer easily (boo hiss)

thanks chaz for correction but the 8400 m G still performs horribly if it was supposed to replace go 7400, it is afterall worse than ati x1400. which is same class older generation card.
