I am looking to purchase HP D4995t with 8800GTS 640 MB card. I know they underclock their mobile gpu's but am wondering if you heard anything about desktop gpu's? Anyone have specific model or gpu from hp?

Do you think it will be underpowered? I just want to play latest games on med-high setting on desktop. (especially crysis-this card meets recommendde requirements)

Sorry to post on laptop forum, but no responses on desktop. I am new to this---i am more a laptop guy, but want a new desktop instead.

I am not familiar with that desktop model, however with that card you'll be fine playing pretty much anything. How much are you paying for the machine? It's generally cheaper to build your own if you're looking for that level of gaming power.

Some HP laptops have underpowered graphics cards, yes, but I don't know of any problems with their desktop cards.

As for the price, that's not bad, but you could build one for the same with equal specs and much better components.

one last question-3gb vs 4gb? mainly for med-high setting gaming vista 32bit. I have heard 32 bit issues with 4gb-is this true? do i truly need the extra gig? I don't care about getting top FPS or anything like that-upgrade just to keep computer longer. suggestions?

I think 2GB or 3GB is fine for you. Check out the dual-channel requirements of your motherboard, as it's possible 3GB would not be an optimal configuration.
