I was just wondering if anybody would know "if" and "when" the HP dv6500t would be getting the Geforce 8600M GT as an option? Currently I know it has the 8400M GS, but I'd rather have the 8600. I know there are other 15" laptops with an 8600, but the HP is the cheapest deal I can find by a lot. If anybody can shed some light, I'd appreciate it.

Doubt it, at least for the time being.
Have you looked at the Dell 1520? -
I have, however the dell will run me about $500 more than the HP. Granted it has the 8600M GT, however the HP has the faster processor.

The 8600M is a desirable card for sure. Remember if one company suits your needs, there's most likely another one out there that does.
I'd agree with coriolis, the dv6500t will probably never see an updated video card. I doubt the dv6500t has the cooling system to handle such a card.
Which deals are you looking at? Try the Dell Vostro 1500, it is often cheaper than its Inspiron counterpart. -
I'm basically trying to stay around the $1500 level. With the HP I can get Vista Ultimate, 2.4 GHz Intel Duo Core 2, 2 gigs of ram, 8400M GS, DVD burner, Microsoft Office for Students, anti virus software and a full coverage 1 year warrenty for pretty much $1500.
If somebody knows of a better equipped laptop for that price then please point me in the right direction. -
depending on what your using your computer for...that 2.4 GHz may be a waste of an option...in the sense that you could be ruling out perfectly viable notebooks and also that it is driving up your price anywhere from 150 to 300 dollars.

You can get the Dell Vostro 1500 for a similiar price as Chaz mentioned.
-
Well I've been trying to find companies that offer a student discount which is why I can get a good price on the HP. Dell offers one, but the thing is still way more expensive. THe Vostro is ok, but I'd rather have Vista Premium and everything all ready to go
-
I'd be using it for school work obviously and watching movies and playing games
-
Yep, the Vostro 1500 is cheaper than the i1520 and doesn't suffer from the never-ending delays of the coloured Inspirons. The dv6500t will never get the 8600GT, since HP seems averse to putting good GPUs in their consumer notebooks.
I must say though, a T7700 is useless over the T7500 and even the T7300. You could save a lot of cash by downgrading. -
i guess the next question would then be, any processor intensive software included in that schoolwork?
-
even for the future, the T7700 or T7500 wouldn't be worth it?
