i know there are so many other threads concerning 3dmark scores, in-game benchmarks and tests, people's comments etc. but if there is a question asked and answered it is for example about general hd2600 graphic performance and not specific to one model abilities...

this however is rather different question and concerns another thing - as most of these tests presented here were somehow done right after being bought. nvidia products are for example so often updated with new revision of drivers and show both increase and decrease in performance it is often argued (at least so i've been told) that nvidia mobile cards could be better choice for gamers. but how is it with ati's cards?

to be more exact i'm even more inclined to say i'd like to know how well hp 8510p's hd2600 does in terms of graphic driver updates and the resulting increase (or decrease) in performance. after all this model comes with hd2600 w/ gddr3 memory so should be close to 8600gt@ddr3 performance. instead i only found results suggesting well worse prowess - basically around 3.5k in 3dmark06, while with newer drivers nvidias counterpart is able to reach almost 8700gt levels (with little or no O/C), so 4k points are possible.

do new drivers help ati's product in the battle of the notebook gamer's cards? can anybody having that note state his results and opinion if it's getting better with newer software? sorry for putting this here, but i just didn't know where to place it - either here or in the HP subsection. i decided to go with this section as i'm most interested with the gaming prowess getting better with newer drivers than the default ones... thx again for any useful comments :D

The problem with the 8510p's HD 2600 GDDR3 is that HP has underclocked the GPU by almost half and then locked the bios, so it is essentially impossible (at this time!) to overclock it yourself.

Sure, we get great battery life and a cool system because of it, but I'd really like to be able to run my HD 2600 at stock clocks, not HP clocks.

So that's the reason most people theorize the HD 2600 GDDR3 is ~= to the 8600m GT GDDR3, when clocks are at stock settings. In reality we just don't know. I don't think there is currently a stock settings GDDR3 HD 2600 notebook anywhere in the world TBH :(

edit: keep in mind I'm referring to the regular HD 2600, not the XT.

What are the stock speeds for an HD2600 with GDDR3 anyways? I've read that this HP model is underclocked. Mine are are at 500/400 from Asus.

Your HD 2600 is DDR2, so I'm not sure what the stock clocks are.

The GDDR3 ones are supposed to be around 500/600 I believe.

Sorry I meant GDDR2, then I guess it would appear that mine are set to stock cluck, huh.

yeah i know of that underclocking, i just thought that they finally unlocked the beast's bios or any other o/c-ing group found a way to do some soft-o/c and with newer drivers you can reach the 4000+ 3dmark06's borderline :D
