Not sure if this should be in the Dv7t forums, but has to do with gaming.

Interesting story here, I wanted to get a mid range laptop to replace my old desktop. Something that could handle middle range games, nothing too crazy. Maybe Skyrim on lower-medium settings I called HP to check on the card model number before I bought. (it only says 1GB Discrete GDDR5 Graphics AMD Radeon). The sales rep said it was a 7690m, which I figured would be decent.

Laptop arrived (about 1 week turnaround, not bad), several days later I decided I should check the card just in case...yep, it says 7470m. I checked out the differences here:

Mobile Graphics Cards - Benchmark List - Notebookcheck.net Tech

Figured it was enough of a difference to call and see what was up. The first couple of minutes on the phone a sales rep told me again the card should be a 7690m, then I told him that is not what I got. 50 minutes later the tech lady couldn't get any help from some other tech ladies (they seemed fairly clueless), so she is going to call me tomorrow and see what is up.

Is this standard with HP stuff? Any other advice? Ask for a discount? hehe. Either way I am guessing I will need to send it back and get the better card installed.

Thanks for your help. I have used these forums often in the past and really value the help!

Just return the laptop. They've screwed up the order, and fixing this is going to eat into your 30(?) day return window if the next laptop has any issues as well. Changing the card is going to involve completely switching out the motherboard and maybe just exchanging the entire notebook.

Kill this order off and then start a new one.

Thanks for the quick response Greg!

Will the 7690m be able to play some of the newer games that are out there?

Should be able to, at med to high setting depending on the game.

It is way better than the 7470M.

Not true. I have a 6770 and run BF3 in 720p on med-high, mostly high.
