    UPDATES:

12/16 - GAME OVER! THANKS FOR PLAYING AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS! :D

12/14 - I will be giving away THREE games a day for the next three days special thanks to katalin_2003 for an infusion of cash! :D
12/14 - WILL BE GIVING AWAY TWO GAMES A DAY FOR FIVE DAYS

    -----------------------------------

    DAY 5 - FINAL DAY!

Thanks to GoG.com for their 50% off holiday sale, I will be offering <s>one</s> two winners a day for <s>ten</s> five days a chance to pick one $4.99 game or two $2.99 games. For those of you not familiar with GoG.com, they offer classic game titles that are repackaged to work with Windows 7, and are completely DRM free. GoG.com is run by the same folks that developed The Witcher and The Witcher 2.

PLEASE READ ALL THE RULES BEFORE SIGNING UP FOR THE CONTEST!
Anyone in violation will have their entry removed and get a lump of coal in their stocking. If I'm in the mood I will offer a possible courtesy note to re-read the contest rules. I may just ignore you altogether, because Santa is busy this time of year!

Rules are as follows (YES YOU ***MUST*** READ AND ABIDE BY THESE):

    (1) Choose your games from GoG.com and enter using the Google Docs form here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?hl=en_US&formkey=dFFhYzdvN2hRUEZCTUQwTUVySVZtckE6MQ
Entries can be viewed here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...FFhYzdvN2hRUEZCTUQwTUVySVZtckE&hl=en_US#gid=0

Note that games in GoG's regular game catalog show up as $5.99 or $9.99 but everything is half-off (so if you're bad at math $5.99 games are $2.99, $9.99 games are $4.99). Also, if you cannot use or view Google Docs for whatever reason, PM me and I will add you.

    (2) Every person can add up to five GoG.com games priced at $2.99 or $4.99. You only need to enter once as drawings will be made every day and you will win one $4.99 or two $2.99 games if drawn. Please make entries in order of preference as I will award based on the first entry.

If you have a $2.99 entry listed first I will choose the next $2.99 entry to go along with it. If there is no other $2.99 entry, you will win only that single $2.99 entry. Remaining entries will be eligible for succeeding drawings. No prize amount will exceed $6 each day.

    (3) You can enter at any time until the contest ends, but you can only enter once.

    (4) You must be an NBR member with a join date of November 2011 or earlier with 10 or more quality posts. I do this in order to reward existing NBR members and to prevent spam entries. NO EXCEPTIONS!

    (5) These games require that you have or sign up for a GoG.com account and are of legal age or have legal consent to download and own such games.

    (6) Winners will be drawn once a day based on when I feel like it, lol (usually late evening). The list will be randomized each day and <s>a winner</s> two winners pulled from that list.

You can win up to five games total during the <s>ten</s> five days, and if you are fortunate to win all five of your games, be happy, you can't enter again.

    (7) First drawing will be held 12/12/11. Last one 12/21/11.

    (8) Last but not least, have fun, and post your favorite classic game, PC, console, arcade, or otherwise (2005 or earlier) along with a screenshot or other image related to that game. Oh yeah, you have to put "Ho Ho Ho!" in your post too. :p

Land Ho! (Ho Ho!) - Megaman

You know what my favorite game was? Megaman Legends! It was an action RPG set on a large island with a VERY large underground labyrinth, and the whole thing ends up being interconnected, although you don't realize this at first (and may not realize it even after beating the game!) It was neat that the game didn't spoon feed this fact to you... it left a lot of the exploration up to you.

There were a ton of items to collect which you could combine to upgrade your arm-cannon, and the difficulty was pretty high. It was great. I'm not sure exactly what made it so magical, but it certainly was. Maybe it was the fact that you could introduce yourself as Hippopotamus instead of Megaman at one point early in the game, and if you did, it would stick.

Anyway, Ho Ho Ho! - and Merry Christmas, and TY for spreading some Christmas cheer!

    GOG.com is up again!
Duke Nukem was one of my favorite time wasters at work-

I also spent way to much time playing a hockey game Air.exe (similar to pong)

As for old classic games. Well. I always loved Startropics on the NES. Game had some great music. Besides, searching for your Uncle across the south seas with only a yo yo and his submarine was great.

HTWingNut, I think I said it some time ago, but I still will repeat my words - you are awesome. Truly I think you are the most awesome 39 year old (sorry to bring it up hehehe) I know.

The following images are from my most favorite game - Microsoft Flight Simulator X. I think I'm braking the rules here (but what are for anyway lol). It was was released in 2005, but with add-ons it passes way beyond the mark :D.

I get loads of such beautiful views.
And when sitting in my dorm room late in the evening after studies, when it's already dark and cold nothing beats the coziness of my "crib". And such view makes it even cozier.
I hope you see a 'lil Cessna on the right side, which is supposed to land ahead of me, but I'm trying (and I suceeded :D) to "ninja" the landing. Tower wasn't happy not to mention PAPI is showing me all reds (red over red - you are dead, like a little rhyme says). But it was necessary to do so in order to avoid the collision :D.

As for the last part, well, I would like to wish you, HTWingNut, and your kids (they are the most important things (that sounds kinda wrong(the "things" part)), ehem persons in the whole world) all the best for the upcoming Christmas celebration. I hope you gonna be celebrating in the very cozy/homely atmosphere, just as nice as the one I enjoy when I play flight sim :D
And so comes this part where I say HO HO HO!!!

I loved Quake III and Unreal Tournament when playing with friends but what I wish they would remake is Giants Citizen Kabuto...

I actually went ahead and purchased it this morning. I said to myself with a grin, 'Ho, Ho, Ho!', ya know since I bought it for myself and all.

I already stated that my favourite PC Game is Ultima 7, and my favourite console game is Castlevania 4. Now I want to share the most epic place IMO: The clock on Castlevania 3... hard as nail, I know, got it flaws, I know that too... BUT... the thing that make it unique is THE MUSIC. Clockwork ( this one is the best interpretation). The best videogame music I ever heard!!

    Ho Ho Ho!

My all time favorite is Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive on PC back from 2001. I had fun playing Hexen and Duke Nukem 3D and Alien Trilogy too, but Desperados was the first game that I replayed many times and enjoy it each time. Desperados is a tactical RTS like the Commandos series and it takes place in the wild west. It has beautifully 2D graphics and a long and exiting story. I remember back than when we purchased a game, we got the full game, nowadays we get something with 6-7 hours of gametime and we have to buy the rest with DLCs :(

Ho Ho Ho! Happy holidays NBR and thanks HT for an awesome giveaway :)

My fave classic game is the original X-COM: UFO defense. This game pretty much defined my childhood. It gives me shivers to think the new 'xcom' game is NOTHING like it. Fortunately an indie group is making a true successor.

Yeah, I was thinking 3 years too, but if this upcoming Envy 14 Spectre A) is not vaporware (can you use that term with hardware?) and B) packs a good GPU (28 nm) and screen, I might be upgrading in about 6 months.

As for the question at hand:

One of my first favorite games would have been Captain Comic - I don't remember if anyone in my family ever beat it, but I know that we got close, and we certainly tried long enough. Since then there are a dozen or more I could name from before 2005 that at one time or another were worthy favorites, but it's fun to take a ride in the wayback machine sometimes, so that's my final answer.

    Runners-up include:
    Mines of Moria (roguelike)
    Wolfenstein 3D
    Stellar 7
    King's Quest V
    Ultima VI
    Commander Keen 3
    Fury3
    Fallout 2
    Deus Ex
    and More!

I guess my best favorite Classic game is going to be KotOR I for the PC. Simply one of the best RPG's I have ever, ever, ever played!

However for the GoG Contest: I want to try some classics that I heard were good like FO 1/2, Duke Nukem 3D and Baldur's Gate II.
