I just completed Doom 3 and had a bloody good time. What computer you ask? Look at my sig. Yea thats right, a GMA 900. Now, most of you are thinking A) he tweeked it to run well or B) hes got to be nuts to have been able to withstand that framerate. Now, I know what all the tests say, blahblah 3fps. Well im here to tell you, they obviously dont test well, sure I had to turn all the goodies off and it looked like a complete mess, but once I got say... 30 minutes into the game, I started getting 15-30fps constantly until the very end where the end boss tanked me at 2-5 fps.

Now mind you GMA users out there, please do yourself a huge favor and go into the GMA control panel and edit your 3D settings, you would be suprised what you can play after tweaking it slightly!

Also this is my first post on a forum ever so if I sound like a total n00b, its cause I am. So excuse me if this has been brought up already.

Its also worth noting that F.E.A.R runs fine on a GMA900 as long as your not using Vista, ortherwise, it crashes about 20 minutes into the game ALWAYS.

    Welcome to the forum! :D

Glad that you enjoy the game, there's nothing to apologize for playing your own games in your ways.

    Enjoy your stay here.

Maybe provide what settings you changed, so others can try it? Would be good for netbook users.

I wouldn't consider 15-30fps playable, but if you enjoyed it, that's the main thing. Congrats.

Doom 3. I sh** my pants early on in the game and could never bring myself to finish it. That was the PC version when it first came out 4.5 years ago. Doom 1 & 2 was a walk in the park copmpared to this version.

What's even sadder is I ran across Doom 3 for the XBox on sale maybe a year later and, even though I trembled holding the game in my hand, I bought it.

So I have two versions of the game I can't play. But maybe, just maybe, I'll get the nerve up to finish them. I want to. I mean I've played FEAR, am currently playing Dead Space, and have FEAR 2 on deck. So I should be able to get thru Doom, right?

IMHO, Doom 3 is / was the scariest game I have EVER played. I think scarier than any movie I watched. It was so immersive. I don't know how many times I had to rip off my headphones and shut down the game because my skin was crawling.

How is doom 3 compared to L4D in terms of scariness?

L4D is panic. Doom 3 is chill down your spine, goosebumps down your skin in a split second kind of scary. Lots of suspense too, never know what corner there will be something, and at least in the first half of the game, is something different.

L4D is just a zombie shooter. I've got it. It's fun and not really scary especially in the multiplayer/coop aspect of the game.

Doom 3 is like the gates of Hell will actually open up in your gaming room (or wherever you play) and swallow you whole. Htwingnut is right, Doom 3 has that immersiveness and uneasyness that makes it crawl-out-of-your-skin scary. I mean, hearing the demonic voices whispering in the background and seeing pentagrams littering unlit corridors and....I can't talk about it anymore. So much for thinking about giving it a try again this weekend. I just freaked myself out.

Normally the graphics are what people are impressed with and add to the game. With Doom 3, the graphics are good, but the sound is unbelievably convincing. With awesome positional audio with stereo headphones.
