Ok, so who thought the ending for ep2 was absolutly horrible?? Not only was it kind of sad in that f'ed up kind of way like "omg how could that have just happened" but the game still was short and leaves things really unresolved.
Man speaking of the end, I really hate hunters and stryders... but put them together and that was no fun.
Good thing TF2 was in the Orange box, its the only thing left now since the other games are all beat.

Are you telling me you've played HL Ep2 or what?

The ending was sad...and I hate hunters. Hunters are just annoying strong, not really a fun fire fight. I rather fight a lot of soldiers. I thought the ending hunter strider thing was annoying as well.

It was ok when I had to retreat near the base and had support fire, but trying to be out in the filed all alone was too hard. If they had given just a few more machine gun grenades, rockets for the rpg, or plasma balls for the other gun it would have made things easier.
I didnt think about looking at the achievments till the end of the game, so I missed alot of them, including keeping all the structures alive in the final battle. -

Really? I thought the hunters are really weak. Their attacks from long range are rather easy to dodge because they take so long to blow up but up close they are deadly. Using logs on that part with striders the hunters die with 2-3 hits and you don't lose much health.
The ending was ok. As usual my homie Dog saves the day as usual. I was kinda expecting it when he made the grandchildren comment and how dog ran away thats always a bad sign when DOg senses something. It was much more enjoyable than episode 1 and I can't wait till episode 3 where we take that mofo G-man down. -
Were you using the car to take out the Hunters? It makes things a lot easier; can just hit the Turbo and run right through them.
I liked the ending; it was designed to open things up completely for an Episode 3 (which has been confirmed already afaik). As for length...it was exactly what I expected, based on the length of Episode 1. I'm not saying this is really enough - I'd be somewhat disappointed if I'd spent 20 bucks for just Ep2. Overall though, the value of the Orange Box is easily above and beyond the 45 I paid. -
Very disappointed in the length. Ep1 felt longer.

I think I liked ep2 better, I think ep1 had some harder parts to it tho. I really hated that huge zombie fight in the dark in ep1. My flashlight kept dying and those damn zombies with the grenades kept killing me.
I wonder what the ETA for ep3 is.... -
IF you didn't pay attention, you can kill a hunter in one hit with the secondary fire of the AR2, and hunters die in one hit if you ram them with the car at even half speed.
Here's how easy that part was, ram the two hunters protecting the stryder with the car, then get out and throw the stickybomb thing at the strider and hit it with the pistol, or any other gun one time. boom, it's dead, that took a whopping 30-60 secs and on to the next.. -
EP2 is much better than EP1, and it's longer, at least it took my longer to play through.
I agree with the Hunters being easy to kill, but they could get annoying, and the last part was a bit of a pain in the ass, I actually resorted to making it so my RPG had 999 rounds, because I was just getting tired of loading this one save.(That's why you don't play when you are really tired, you lose bad)
I personally really enjoyed the ending, I mean not that I revel in sadness, because it was really sad as over the course of the three games, you get kind of attached to Alyx and Eli has been around since HL so yeah, it's sad, but it does a lot of things. And whoever said EP2 doesn't answer questions, it does answer a good bit.
How do you guys feel about the Portal/Aperture Labs tie in? It's awesome isn't it? I think it is -_- I hope EP4 or whatever is after EP3 has what's his face, the guy from Opposing Force, that was my favorite of the original HL games. -

The aperture tie in was ok but I'm excited about fighting on the borealis. Artic weather a la lost planet means cool new enemies. Yeah the hunters were too easy because they dont jumpt out of the way 80% of the time when your gonna ram then the logs were everywhere.
Portals will definitely have a tie in to defeating the G-man or dealing with him in some manner. -
I've just finished HL2 Ep2 and was blown away..I mean the game looks awesome, detailed forrest textures and images make HL2 look even better than it did before... by far, EP2 is th most complex one in the series, it answers A LOT of questions, introduces new elements and feelings towards the characters and enemies and definitely adds a note of sorrow ("close your eyes honey ... I love you" ) . That felt real as hell and never saw that coming..I was ready to jump in the helicopter and the damn Advisor just showed up(the brainsucking thing reminded me of the movie Starship Troopers) and god I HATE BUGS !
Sad indeed, and veeeeery short, took me less than a day to finish it! Well, at least for the money spent, I got TF2 which is pretty cool.
Note to self, play all HL2 games again and pay attention to everything. This time on hard dificulty -
I liked the ending. Ok, so it's not a 100% happy ending. And that's awesome. Maybe that's a sign that games are starting to grow up. Maybe one day, games will have plots that wouldn't disgrace one of Arnie's action movies. That'd be something... Ep2 takes a step in the right direction, at least.
And yes, it leaves some things unresolved.... Because they're making an Episode 3 as well... I was actually surprised by how many answers they actually do give you in Ep2.
Hunters are annoying as hell though. -
I also thought EP2 was fantastic. They did a great job with the revamped Source engine. I don't understand why people are complaining about the story of Half Life. For me it is the most interesting and engrossing video game story ever concieved. The unanswered questions make it that much more engrossing. I think the G-Man is a fantastic character and the religious ramblings of the Vortigants make the story feel so epic. It is definately one of my favourite Sci-Fi sagas.

Episode Two was amazing! The best game this year (at this point).
To the OP, how can you have not enjoyed the final epic battle?? That was one of the pinnacles of all FPS gaming.
Hunters are very vulnerable to being hit with heavy objects. If you tried to kill them with bullets, that's would explain why you found them difficult.
Use a heavy object as a shield to catch the darts (the exploding blue ones that hunters shoot), then fling the object back at them. Their own fleccettes will explode and deal immense damage, and can even kill them in one hit. Use the tree trunks to catch the fleccettes.
AR2 pulse orbs, RPG's, smg grenades, and the car are also very effective.
The ending was fantastic btw, it was one of the most amazing and emotional endings I've ever seen. -
Forget Ep2...Portal was the real meat of the OB. Portal is just too awesome. I'm gonna shut up now.
-
I just finished the game about 5 minutes ago.
First off, I liked the game a lot better than Episode 1 and HL2, it was just more enjoyable to me....until the end of course.
I was rather bored killing all the hunters, although it was easy using the car as someone stated.
It seemed like the story was much easier to follow as well in this game compared to others...they did a good job of catching you up and the beginning, and a clear direction for where Episode 3 will be going.
In all, I'd say it was a pretty fun game. Now, I can get back to focusing on school real hard until Gears of War, the FEAR expansion, and Crysis come out. -
Hl2 Ep2 was amazing. I loved the game and the ending. If you are a fan of the HL series as a whole, you would realize they usually leave their games in cliff hangers and rarely does anything make sense. None the less, it was awesome. And the end was easy. What I want is an end boss like in HL, but oh well. I cant wait for Ep 3.

I absolutely loved the ending battle. I still don't understand people with the uppity "Hunters were laughable" comments. That final battle was easily one of the most action-packed and exciting fights in ANY game. I think I got more of a rush from it because I didn't have to reload. I did about 20 handbrake maneuvers in the car which made things seem pretty epic as well.
Bah. It was awesome.
Ending made me feel sad, yes, but they couldn't let that much success get to the player.
