Hi
I want to buy bioshock and half-life 2 the orange box this week but i dont know if i should buy it for my new notebook
or the xbox 360.
Im currently playing doom 3 on my notebook and the game looks and runs like a dream, far superior to the xbox version, and even though the 360 is a far better machine than the original xbox i cant help but feel that the pc versions of the games i want to buy will be better also.
Below are the specs for my notebook, could anyone tell me how will bioshock and half-life 2 the orange box look and run on my notebook compared to the xbox 360 and which version would you recommend i get?
CPU: Intel Centrino Core 2 Duo T7700 (2.4Ghz)
RAM: 3GB DDR2
GPU: 512MB Ati Mobility Radeon HD2600
HDD: 250GB
Display: 17" TFT Trubrite WXGA (1440X900)
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium (32Bit)
Thankyou

bioshock looks the same on the 360 and pc
orange box looks WAY better on 360
both would run well on that notebook -
Orange Box on PC, Bioshock on the 360. The former runs like a dream on my desktop (7900GTO, which is a slightly underclocked GTX), whereas Bioshock struggles to maintain 30FPS at 1280x800 sometimes. There are also more players on the PC version of TF2.
"orange box looks WAY better on 360"
Is that a typo? -
have you seen hl2 on the 360?... it's like a new game
-
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
OB or Bioshock better on 360???? Pffft, I don't think so, what kind of crack are you on? PC for sure. And the reason Bioshock "looks" better on 360 than PC is because PC is capable of displaying much higher resolution textures on a much higher resolution screen than what Bioshock or your TV uses. PC will always look better than 360. PC hardware and software is not locked into a little box that can't really be upgraded and has been the same for like 3 years now.
Now if you are comparing gameplay style (i.e. Gamepad vs KB & Mouse) that's different and totally user preference.
Here decide for yourself about EP2 on PC vs 360. The ONLY thing 360 has over PC is dynamic shadows with the flashlihgt. But it's implementation is rather crappy IMO. I'd rather have AA/AF and all the other goodies in the PC version. Not to mention FPS w/gamepad is ok but but i like KB+Mouse better.

Bioshock on the 360, the Orange Box on your PC. Download Fake Factory v7 mod because it will make OB leaps and bounds better looking over the 360. Plus it's much more fun with a keyboard and mouse.

Choose a Pc if you've got some money to buy the "good stuff"... or an XBOX 360 if you're flat broke and/or in a low budget... Either way, both would SUCK if you don't have at least a descent LCD Screen/TV...

Orange Box is a lot better on PC, more players on TF2, regular updates and new content for TF2 (XBOX360 has not received any new content), controls for HL2 is a lot better on PC because it is designed for PC in mind, but about bioshock it's designed for xbox , plays better on xbox but the pc version is not inferior either.
-
Bioshock is gorgeuos on my notebbok and my buddy just bought a 1080p LCD and it looks just as good on his 360. on a tube Bioshock looks like a$$
-
I would definately get Orange Box for PC. It was originally designed for PC and the Source engine runs extremely well on the latest midrange graphics cards. If you have an HD TV then I'd get Bioshock for 360, but if not, then definitely get the pc version.
Thank you to whoever mentioned the fakefactory HL2 mod, I hadn't ever seen it before and now I think I'm gonna play through HL2 again just because it looks so amazing! -
Get Orange Box for the PC regardless of your rig just for the mods and custom content like new portal maps.
For Bioshock I'd go with the 360 version because, well, you get to play it on a TV and use a controller. -

FWIW, OB does NOT look better on the 360 compared to the PC.
looks much better on the PC. -
How do you play games?
Are casual so you play through the single player campaign and never touch it again?
Are you a hardcore gamer that saps every last bit of goodness out of a game?
Seriously, its going to look good on both as long as you have a decent LCD or plasma TV as they show a lot more detail tham rear projection units like DLP.
Good thing about console is you get it on a big screen, assuming you have a big screen of course, its better for gaming when friends visit and you can resell the games at a decent price on fleabay when you are done with them or rent games.
On the laptop its going to look great, be mobile, better for online matchs and have tons of mods.
I say if you are going to run through a game once and sell it then get the console version as you can get back atleast 75% of the cash you invest in it when you are done (atleast for great games like you mentioned).
If you plan on keeping them and playing the crap out of them get them for the laptop because there will be a lot more replay value with mods and the online community (free online community)
Most likely, Bioshock for the 360 and Orange Box for the laptop. Bioshock might even be a renter for the 360 if you can sit down and play the crap out of it in a couple of days. It doesn't take long to beat. -
OB for PC.
Bioshock for Xbox.
I wish I had gotten Bioshock for xbox instead.
SecuROM and no achievements are for the lose.. :[ -
Bioshock with a gamepad? Bioshock is a fps for gods sake. Gamepads are not meant for FPS games, the keyboard and mouse is vastly superior and is how a FPS should play like.
No Bioshock doesn´t look the same as on a maxed out PC running it in DX10. Check gamespot for their comparison if you don´t believe me
I would love to see a 360 run Bioshock in 1920x1200 all maxed out DX10 16xAF with fps ranging from 70-130 fpsNow I am talking about my own laptop of course.
Half Life 2 is a PC game in the first place, so the answer is obvious, don´t listen to people who say the 360 version looks better it don´t. The 360 can´t run HL2 maxed out at 1920x1200 if you had such a display and with 6xAA and 16xAF, my old laptop with a go 7800GTX runs HL2 at that res and with those graphical options.
The 360 is a joke nowadays, a 3 year old platform running games in 1280x720 resThat doesn´t impress anyone. I have a 360 myself collecting dust now.

Bioshock for 360.
Orange Box for Laptop.
Orange Box never did well on the 360. Plus Steam has a much better community than the annoying brats 360 has. I really wish Microsoft had servers that kids couldn't go on. -
Spending that much every year to have the latest and greatest is a cool option to have, but there is value in a $350 box that produces a good deal of eye candy and doesn't need to be upgraded for 5 or so years.
I'd love to have your laptop, but the $15k or so you'd spend staying on the high end of gfx for those 5 years just isn't an option.
Consoles have there place and do what they do well, otherwise they wouldn't dwarf the PC gaming market like they do (in terms of $$$). -
Playing a Valve game on a console is nearing abomination territory.
Orange Box on PC. That is all.
As for Bioshock, I would have preferred it on PC, but I got it for Xbox360 so I wouldn't have to deal with the PC DRM crazyness. That was months ago, though, so maybe the Bioshock DRM climate is better? -

Back when I played most of my games on my go7600 I would decide PC/Xbox 360 based on how well my laptop would run the game. If knew I could play the game on my natvie res 1280x800 I went with the PC version because usually its cheaper ($50 vs $60), I prefer using a KB/mouse over a gamepad (i have a ps2 clone gamepad for emulators or games that it works better in), and because I knew I could install any mods or patches that might come out. Keeping all that in mind I bought Orange Box for my PC and Bioshock for my 360. Now with my new computer and the 8800gts the only way I would consider buying an Xbox 360 game is if its and xbox exclusive.
To summarize: In my opinion there is no game out there unless it was an Xbox game originally and was ported poorly that could possibly look better than its PC counterpart (unless your computer isn't powerful enough to run it). -

I think it would work great on your notebook, and even better if you had some Nvidia graphics and not ATI, but don't worry, it will work like a dream...
I prefer Notebook than "360" -
Half-Life 2 & Bioshock, PC or Xbox 360 which is better?
