Too bad the guy behind it ed with the character designs and has the idea that huge texture files automatically makes a game awesome.

    Guys,

Keep it NBR appropriate, and find other aspects of the mod to talk about. Posts have been deleted.

I love the cinematic mod. I'm just playing through Episode 2 with it now. It really does make the game a better experience. Worth the download. Just make sure you install it correctly. You have to put on 10.0, then install 10.1 or you won't get the updated maps at all. Then 10.2 for a bug fix. Then you MUST run the "character pimper" in the cinematic mod folder (in your steam file) and select the HD models. All these are included in that one download though.

But the long download and install process is well worth it.

Good. I guess something different with Half-Life 2 while we wait forever for Episode 3. I sure hope Ep 3 is like 20 hours of gameplay, otherwise what the heck took them so long.

So, if you have HL2, Ep 1, and Ep 2, would the download upgrade all these games or would you have to install on each, or is it only for HL2?

You MUST own episodes 1 and 2 for version 10 of the mod (you can get up to version 7 i think if you only own HL2), and the one download installs the game for HL2 and both episodes.

I d/led it off Usenet took about 1 hour :D

It makes the game look a lot different, I was going to revisit HL2 one day and when I recently updated to a 3x screen setup this just gave me even more of a reason.

The game is a lot darker, I have to use a flashlight a lot, and it seems to have ramped up the difficulty a lot too, I died a lot so far when i did not die almost the entire game without the mod.

It also acts as a bug fix for me, running 5760x1200 for some reason on the stock game my aim crosshair is gone, using the mod put it back.

HL2 still is one of the most innovative and best fps games of all time, so I recommend using this mod and playing it again if its been sitting in the back of your steam game list for a while and your not currently engaged in another game.

For now I put it on hold to play Borderlands and soon when it comes out I imagine I will give L4D2 a chance (didnt like the demo much but I bought the game the same day the demo came out to the public lol)

Ive been using this for quite a while, in its various iterations. One thing though, it is NOT just a graphics mod. As well as the frankly massive texture overhaul, there are also tweaked ingame events, rebalanced weapons, new NPC overhauls including models not just the skins, new and tweaked sounds/music, maps have been altered, areas rebuilt and repopulated to take advantage of source engine revamps, many of the maps have had submaps merged into larger ones so less ingame loads and you can see MUCH further, as well as edits to bring the atmosphere and world into even greater focus.

Frankly Cinematic Mod is one of THE best, most ambitious and most thorough non-total conversion mods in existance, for any game, and it dissapoints me when people fob it off as a purely graphical update and fail to realise the scope and raw effort put into this for free.

I found the cinematic mod v10 final on mininova. But it's only 9.62GB. Does anyone now weither or not it's the same version as the one posted on filefront?

Installing it now. It said it needed 20GB for installation. Even the setup window looks cool.

All I can say is: non-raided dual 500GB drives FTW.

    OK, quick question:

Is SLI not supported with this mod or something? I have SLI indicators on, but they don't show up on the game. And I am pretty sure it's not being utilized since only 1 cards goes up in temp.

OK, so apparently an option would be to rename the exe's. The question is what exe's and to what?

Hard to believe no one here is not running this thing with SLI. :twitchy:

They make it sound really high, with threats like you must have atleast 4gb system ram and you must use a x64 OS, but it runs 60fps at all times for me at 5760x1200 with a 5870 and I only have 4gb system ram.

So while it is indeed a lot higher than vanilla HL2 I think that most modern machines should have no issues with it.

I imagine this is one of those times a high memory dedicated card really shines.

I play at 1440x900 with 2xAA, Max details on my FX and it runs fine. I run vanilla HL2 and all other source titles (CSS, L4D, etc) with max details and at least 8xAA, if not 16xAA.

If I plug into my HDTV at 1080p, I have to disable AA for smooth play. All other source titles run fine with 8x or 16xAA still.

I have 4Gb of memory and 1Gb of video memory. A 512mb video card might suffer from the high res textures, not sure.

OK, I'm gonna give it another shot before uninstalling. It would be a shame as it is looking really good but I just can't enjoy it if it's only using one card when I know it can use 2. I think OCD's. he he.

Anyway, does anyone have ANY IDEA how to make this SLI capable? Changing the exe's sounds like a plan but I can't grasp how to make it work.

    Thanks.

I see a lot of knowledgeable gamers responding to this thread. I know you people know the answer. Don't force me to uninstall this! I am warning you *shakes fist*

Well I had to try this out and I have to say it is pretty amazing. I play it at 1920 X 1080 with Max settings including AA and it stays around 120 + FPS. I have just tested Half Life 2 so far, the system is a Sager NP9850.

Yeah the HD models are crazy. There are like 10 versions of Alyx. It's cool because you can set the models to change at certain points in the game, so it feels like time is advancing in the game, as Alyx changes outfits throughout the game. Plus you can make Barney a fat lookin' dude.

The file itself is 11.85 GBs, the installation requires 20 GBs. It's a lot but it's worth it. I am playing Half Like 2 all over again (I just finished it a day ago).XD

Glad I saw this topic, Force Unleashed Ultimate Sith Edition is delayed in Canada till the 23rd of November (We are awful pirates up here, can't be trusted at all). Anyway gives me something to do, and this mod sure changes the game, a lot darker. The zombies are very disturbing as well...
