I ordered a laptop with 1gb of RAM and it also comes with an Nvidia GeForce 7600 with 256mb. Once i get it im going to upgrade it to 2gb of RAM. It has an Intell Core Duo Processor t2250 with 1.73 GHz. Will this laptop be able to play halo 2???
-
In short: Yes
-
Sneaky_Chopsticks Notebook Deity
Yes, however, you will NEED MICROSOFT WINDOWS VISTA.
-
Well, looks like I won't be buying Halo 2 for a while then if that is the case.
-
Apparently, someone knows how to fight the system:

The computer wil come with vista home premium.
Will it be choppy or will it play pretty good? -
If this can play halo 2:
"# Graphics processing unit (GPU) and system chipset: 233 MHz "NV2A" ASIC. Co-developed by Microsoft and NVIDIA.
* 4 pixel pipelines with 2 texture units each
* 932 megapixels/second (233 MHz x 4 pipelines), 1,864 megatexels/second (932 MP x 2 texture units) (peak)
o 115 million vertices/second, 125 million particles/second (peak)
o Peak triangle performance: 29,125,000 32-pixel triangles/sec raw or w. 2 textures and lit.[citation needed]
+ 485,416 triangles per frame at 60fps[citation needed]
+ 970,833 triangles per frame at 30fps[citation needed]
* 4 textures per pass, texture compression, full scene anti-aliasing (NV Quincunx, supersampling, multisampling)
* Bilinear, trilinear, and anisotropic texture filtering
* Similar to the GeForce 3 and GeForce 4 PC GPUs."
I'm sure you're fine -
Does it play it smooth tho??? -
Sneaky_Chopsticks Notebook Deity
As long as you have a windows vista OS, then you're fine. Personally, I recommend Vista Home Premium for personal use. Vista Business for business use.
-
Halo 2's requirements shouldn't be that much steeper than Halo 1's, if any steeper. It's built on the same engine and the graphical upgrades aren't insane. You won't have any problems at all running the game at fully maximized settings, trust me.
-
Thanks guys, really appreciate it.
One more quesion. Would games like half life 2 work good on my laptop??? -
Half-Life 2 will run on anything!
-
What is the difference of shared memory and dedicated memory and how does it affect gaming?
-
In short, a graphic card with more dedicated memory kick a$$, while one with shared memory does not.
The difference is the fact how the onboard GPU utilize available memory for temporary storage (for textures, etc). Dedicated memory, like the name suggested, are designed only for the utilization of memory shortage for the GPU, the more dedicated memory that a graphic card has, means more storage, and more storage means faster yet smooth data transfer, which has direct impact on the game performance i.e. less loading time, less freeze or stutter, etc.
While shared memory on the other hand, is really just a cheap way that computer/graphic card manufacturers trying to save couple of bucks and boosting some battery life for the notebook, so graphic card with shared memory "loan" memories from the computer's main memory, i.e. Random Access Memory (RAM), in order to boost game performance.
For instance, my setup with the Go 7400, in reality, this graphic card only has 128MB of on board RAM, which is the dedicated memory. While it also borrows another 128MB from my 2GB RAM when it needs more memory, and that's why it's called shared memory.
Luckily, for this nVidia Geforce Go 7400, the way the 128MB memory is shared is completely rely on some sort of hardware wiring, which is good when comparing to the ATI Radeon M x1400 with HyperMemory which is completely using Software to achieve the same result. -

This is a link to the computer im getting. How do i know if it has shared or dedicated memory??? -
I'm pretty sure the 256MB are all dedicated memory on that Go 7600.
-
thanks alot

See what it says here? That describes the GPU as having 256MB of dedicated memory.
Video Chipset: GeForce Go 7600

is 1gb enought to run halo 2 or should i upgrade to 2gb or would 1.5gb be plenty?
-

1GB should be enough to run most applications, 1.5GB and you're laughing but 2GB of RAM is excessive for the average user. You should be fine with 1GB RAM but 1.5GB would be perfect. I think
EDIT: that was with XP in mind. 2GB would be appropriate considering Vista -
Dude, your computer will run anything that is Dx 9.0 And Halo 2 will run compleatly fine. I would bet on it being about to run on High Settings, and all that Jazz, but it may have to go down to Medium/High.
-
Do you think my computer could handle battlefield 2???
-
Def Play Bf 2 and 2142 at reasonable frames per second say 40 at medium settings maybe 2xaa
-
Halo 2 is like out now, at least some online stores have them right now.
Cost: $49.99
I mean, what the hell?! the XBox & 360 version only costs $29.99... -
hey studwand
did you get halo 2 yet?
and how does it play on ur lappy? -
WOW at the halo 2 screen shots :-X

I want this game even more. Can PC players play with xbox players or are there seperate servers?
-
Sneaky_Chopsticks Notebook Deity
PC players can play with xbox players. However, if you want to do that, you have to buy Microsoft Live. Lol. It's the PC's version of XBOX Live. And players can play against each other (referring to XBOX vs PC).
The downside is...MICROSOFT DELAYED AGAIN FOR LIKE THE 4TH TIME FOR HALO 2 TO COME OUT FOR PC..NOW WE HAVE TO WAIT FOR JULY. >.< -
Wouldn't letting pc players join the same servers completely ruin the experience for xboxers?
-
Halo 2 will run fine @ 1024x768 on high settings. I was actually expecting more from this game since it's a few years old, but I guess my expectations were too high. I have the same configuration as you do. 1.73Ghz dual core, 1GB RAM, and the 7600.

I hate a how you need Vista to be able to play it.
Sometimes MS just pisses me off. -

Well I understand the reason behind it but it angers me how MS could be so ignorant.
Oh well im sure there are millions like me. -
I HAVE HALO 2! I went to CircuitCity today and they had it! I ordered it online and picked up 1/2 an hour later! I'm going to play the game while it's installing to try out that one feature that lets you do that. Cheers!
-
so if i get a laptop with the same config as you ill be able to play at 1024x768 on high settings?
btw what laptop you have?
tnx -
hmm
i am not talking illegal or something....
but there are tons of hackers or emulator makers...
someone would make vista emulator to play halo 2 or make halo 2 version with xp.... -
oh yeah....
i don;t think halo 2 would play on mine...
would it?? -
-
tnx for the reply...
since you have a 7600, i dont know why an a8jm wont play it properly...do you?
or anybody else?
ya some screenies will be nice if you could
tnx -
what are some other pretty cool games that have great online play that may lappy could handle
-
Pretty cool feature to have...in a game...im jus waiting for it to be out in the uk...pre-order available but its not hit the store shelves yet......
also why have they left it so late to create halo 2 for pc... i mean halo 3 is around the corner for the 360 so why do they do that with the pc....
the question that it leads to is in how long will it be before halo 3 comes out for the pc......seven years? hehe

Here are some screenshots of me playing the game. The resolution was at 1024x768, high detail settings, no AA. Frame rates are around 23-45ish. Average was 29fps. It was played on an HP dv8000t with a Core Duo t2250 1.73GHz, 1GB RAM, Go 7600 256MB. The game takes a while to get "settled" before it's actually playable on my laptop. It seems like it's accessing the hard drive a lot though, so I probably need to upgrade to 2gb of ram. Hope this helps, nihalz.
