Any news on system requirements for Halo 2 for PC other than Vista? I heard that it will support Direct X 9. I hope the requirements aren't too high; my current system passes the recommended requirements for Halo: Combat Evolved.

    Looks so nice...

I am pretty sure that Microsoft is going to make games that are Vista only (no DX 9 support at all) - considering that DX10 is a Vista only thing, it's convenient to say "you need Vista to play this, so therefore cough up the ungodly price I am charging you to upgrade."

On system specs - probably 2.0 ghz processor, 256 mb VRAM ? Just guesses.

Halo 2 will not support DX9. The confusion there is that you do not need a Shader Model 4 (sometimes called DX10) graphics card. You will need Vista, DX10 (which comes with Vista), and the appropriate Vista graphics drivers for your card. All cards with appropriate drivers work fine with DX10, they just don't support the newest features. The same is true of Crysis and other DX10 games. They can make the most of the latest graphics cards, but as of now, none of these games require Nvidia 8800 or ATI R600 to play.

Completely false. DX9 cards on Vista use a version called DX9.0L (versus 9.0c in XP). I know, I ran Vista for 6 months. DX10 will only work on a DX10 card.

I seriously doubt that Halo 2 will be DX10 only. It will be Vista only, but if it's DX10 only, that means like 200 people will buy it when it comes out, if that. M$ cares about money more than that.

Well i read that it will support Direct X 9 from PC Gamer mag (which I think is a reliable source).

What will support DirectX 9, do you mean? Halo 2, Vista or DX10?

Vista will certainly support DX9 (or DX9.0L), yes.
DX10 does not. It has no backwards compatibility (which is why Vista comes with DX9.0L).
As for Halo 2, I don't know. It might require DX10, simply because that would be a good way to make it Vista-only, but yes, that would also mean that only a tiny minority of Vista users would be able to play.

And no, PC mags are not reliable sources. They usually pick up the first 3 or 4 buzzwords they can find, and them write an article based on that. Doesn't mean they know what they're talking about in general. ;)

Surely if Halo 2 was DX10 only it would be a massive flop - what percentage of gamers are actually going to have Dx10 hardware at that stage?
