I've played Halo 3, and I wasn't really impressed. I've done some research into Unreal III, and from what I can tell, it seems to be the better game, with more features and depth.
Does anyone have experience with both, and if so, what are your thoughts?

well UT III is a death match style game in line w/ older UT / Quake series. UT III has all the tradition UT weapons and they also added vehicles into the mix. if you're talking about online portion then UT III clearly has more depth and features. but they're both a different game made for different crowds.

UT 3 > Halo 3. I watched my friend played Halo 3 at his house....pretty boring to me compared to UT 3

I dunno, I thought Halo 3 was decent. It definitely was equal at least to halo 2 in terms of multiplayer. Ugh I guess you can call me biased (which I am) because I am a fan of the halo series while not a fan of the UT series. I never got into the fast faced frenzy pace of UT and after playing 3 it didn't change my mind. I have given it a chance though as I played through its so called "campaign" and tried the occasional multiplayer map, but I can never get into it. Halo 3 wasn't mesmerizing, it felt like an old formula that had just some new concepts, weapons, maps etc added which I guess goes saying if it works why change it.

halo 3 is probably the most boring fps i've ever played, unload clip >> melee >> dead, repeat

I haven't played Halo 3. I'm no fan of the Halo games. But I think there's a pretty good chance Halo 3 is more fun than Unreal Tournament III.
UT3's the exact same game we've been playing for the past eight years, just a new title and some new graphics. -
-
i'm an unreal tournament fan, but did play halo 2 before and thought it was ok. if you have a 360, halo 3 is probably the better game
-
Halo 3 is good if you like little kids to scream at you
-
btw cod4>halo3 in every single aspect -
As unimpressed as I was with Halo 2, unlike most people, Halo 3 actually did impress me. It's a very good game, I have to give it that. However, UT3 is kinda meh. It's the same solid gameplay, but it's lacking in terms of new features from UT2K4. Oh, and the menu is TERRIBLE.

Halo doesn't impress me at all. The only good ratigns it gets is from 8-year olds.
UT3 doesn't impress me that much right now besides its amazing graphics. Anyone but me tired of looking at the bubbly graphics? They look so fake that I honestly get tired of looking at them, or something to that effect. Also, UT3 is the same thing as UT2004. But then again, Halo 3 is the same thing as Halo 2.
Edit: I'm waiting for the invasion rpg mod to release. Also, maybe i'm unimpressed with the graphics because I'm running it on low to medium -
Halo 3 is the same formula as the last one. UT3 is the same formula as the last one. In my opinion UT 3, even if it is very similar to UT 2k4 it's multi player is much better than halo 3's multi player. UT III's Unreal Editor is also a bonus, since you can do what ever you want to the game with it, even make your own games. I'm sorry but the forge editor for halo is just kind of a gimmick (though it is fun the add the 4 wheeler to the level that is just a bridge, and jump them at each other). obviously Halo has an advantage over UT III in the single player campaign. Even with that I think UT III>Halo 3. Halo3 while a good game is a bit overrated.

I still love my Unreal 2004
anyways, consoles suck for FPS games, of ANY kind.
Keyboard and mouse FTW!
Halo is a decent game, but it's WAY overhyped. Play it, beat it, get told master chief is probably dead. Play it on super hard mode, beat it, he's alive.
T3h dumb idea to change the plot for better playerzzez.
Cuz I'm d3h 1337 pWnz()Rz -
I love halo 3 campaign. Legendary AI just never gets old for me. It's like nonstop action with death always on your back just waiting to kill you.
I also love UT2004 (havnt tried 3, heard it's about the same) but it's a totally different mindset. Instead of being tactical and planning your next move 4 minutes ahead like in halo3, you need to get good at twitch first of all (if you want to last more than 1 second in multiplayer) and you just need to get powerful weapons and then mow down whoever you can before you die. I love it but it's just something totally different.
I don't think they are really comparable. They are both FPS, sure. But they are both for different crowds. So chances are if Halo3 was "meh" to you and you are used to faster games, UT3 will be awesome for you. -
The Halo series really is what pulled me back to the FPS genre. After so many doom clones I got tired of it, but Halo's atmosphere and smoothly done mechanics (especially for a console shooter) and decent story is what brought back to FPS again.
UT3 on the other hand has felt very twitchy (though the graphx are amazing), and I'm not a big multiplayer guy so Halo 3 is much more my game of choice.
CoD4 deserves some mention here as well, and while we're at it, I'll just throw in how much I'm looking forward to Battlefield Bad Company in a few months! WooHoo!
God bless -

Halo looks more realistic, while UT3 is more fantasized.
(Something to connect the previous statement with the one coming up)
I like UT3. -
Meh, they are both mediocre at best IMHO. There are plenty of titles in the FPS realm that are much better IMHO.
-
I play 95% single player when I play FPS, and I'm a big science fiction fan. Halo 3 is my pick between the two. I really enjoyed the single player, especially on heroic or legendary. Unreal 3 graphics are better, but I hate the rag doll physics... sooo fake, not that halo 3's are super realistic but still not as bad.
I don't know why you guys think that fps aren't good on consoles, I'd take the 360 controller over a mouse and keyboard any day. Once you get used to it, it's much more natural, and way more ergonomic, atleast for me.
I'm totally getting a 360 controller for my laptop -
As for actual game play, a Keyboard + Mouse is by far > a Controller.
But as for overall comfort and convenience a controller is by far > a keyboard and mouse.
Bottom line though, as for playability, keyboard and mouse FTW every time! -
As for the games, I'd prefer the multiplayer of UT3. The Unreal single player campaign sucks pretty bad though.
But the real winner this year is Call of Duty 4. -
Cod4 FTW!!

COD 4 > UT 3 > Halo 3

The thing that is really nice about Halo 3.... 4 person Co-op campaign. A real campaign unlike the UT series.
Granted, the story wasn't great, and I really only played through H3 to ... finish the story, playing the campaign with friends is a big highlight. Especially on Legendary.
As far as multiplyer of Halo3, I suck at it... :-/ And being that their matchmaking sucks (I get pitted against top tiered people) I prefer UT for a death match style game.
Though, when I've done LAN parties with UT, it's been a blast. And playing H3 over live with an exclusive party of friends (sometimes 12 people) was a blast. Biggest factor in fun difference, with UT, we lanned in the same room, so was more fun. Outside of that, I found H3 to be more fun when playing with friends.
Haven't tried CoD4. -
COD4 is another thread. I'm only interested in people's experiences with UTIII and Halo 3.
While I'm sure COD4 is a great game, it's off topic for this thread. -
Halo 3 is a fantastic game, if you like games from the halo series you will be in heaven. UT3 is also a fantastic game, again, if u like games from the UT or quake series you will be in heaven. I think its mostly preference and your experience that will decide.
UT comes with UT3 editor that enables you to do some insane creating. You can do anything from weapon mods, map mods, to create totally new maps and totally new weapons. Downside is that it can be frustrating and VERY time consuming
Halo 3's got forge that lets you move objects around and add objects and weapons, you can do some creative stuff but nowhere near what you can mod in UT3. It can also be time consuming and frustrating however not on the scale for UT.
Gameplay wise it's totally preference. UT3's DM is very fast paced and exhillerating. Halo 3 is only fast paced part of the time, the rest is somewhat tactical but just slower. The tactical games of UT3 like CTF and warfare are intense and have tactics to them. It's hard to describe the gameplay, you really should play both to decide which one of them you'll like more.
Halo 3's got an advantage over UT3 in the sense that it has a reasonable campaign that's actually really fun if you play with friends, but it's a limited time thing. You'll get bored of the campain after the 2nd go 'round.
The only other noticeable difference is the hardware, it requires some major hardware to get UT3 looking good, where as halo 3 u have to have a 360 to play. Both look fantastic (with the right hardware, gfx card for ut3 and a good tv for halo3) but if you have the rig UT does look better.
Personally I prefer Halo 3, somehow it's just plain funner.
ps @ scooberdoober, yes ur exactly right, and pps Cod4 fking ownes (get i for PC if u can handle it), if you like COD4 chances are you'll like Halo 3 more than UT3 (from observing all of my homo friends who think UT3 is a waste of time) -
Halo3 multiplayer is so fun!
I find UT3 Multiplayer to be downright obnoxious.
