In halo pc, there is a chyme that beeps to let you know whether or not your shot is damaging a player, or just not registering due to high ping (so high that you have to lead your crosshair/reticle in front of a player). Why is it that most other online pc games like battlefield 2 don't adopt such a system so that we can at least have an idea of whether or not we are hitting a player when we are playing on a slow connection and have to lead the reticle in front of a target.
just a thought for discussion.

Because if your lagging, then the other player with the highspeed connection is gonna see you lag, and there will start the h4x accusations, and possible boot you. Aswell as the fact that intentional connection lag can be considered cheating or a glitching.

Im the biggest fan of halo man. I beat all the games even the one pc. Ive played online and lag can suck because peopl edo play on there 56k which is horrible for games. Ive had my share of headaches playing halo because of lag. As for the pinging sound you hear that pretty much only halo. Ive played counterstrike source and F.E.A.R. online and you die much quicker because in those games you arent a masterchief and a few shots is all you need to kill someone even with an automatic, so there is no need for the pinging sound

if your getting really bad lag, then try playing on servers with few people...like 5/6 ppl.

I'll throw my two cents in about Halo PC. I personally think it is an incredibly unoptimized game, at least in the multiplayer online department. I connect to high speed servers with only 3 or 4 other people in it and it still lags with my 6 megabit Comcast cable. Pretty sad. If I host a server it's another story. No ping there while every else lags.
I've heard that Halo Custom Edition makes it a little better, but I've heard that the fan base is pretty small.

The topic of discussion was the little chyme that lets u know if u're hits are registering (meaning that if u have bad lag and have to lead [aim in front of] a target, the chyme will beep if ur shot causes actual damage so that you know that ur shots aren't be lost to the lag)
It is an incredibly fair solution to help people that don't have great connections. I don't know why they don't do this for all games. I hate it when i'm playing CS:S on a crumby connection and can't tell whether or not i'm inflicting any damage on targets that i have to lead. -
I play Halo PC online sometimes too and think the chime is great, I don't know what I would do w/o it (probably be a lot worse at the game
). It took me a while to notice it though. As for lag, I'm usually on a 100mbps LAN when I play so the lag is never very bad unless you get in a game w/ a ping higher than 120 or so. You just have to adjust your playing style to it since there's not really any way around it (other than hosting a game).
