just bought Halo MCC and to say the least its impressive that is with multiplayer. Also If you get good enough you can play for money in tourneys. I felt these games deserved their own thread as it is truely a good remake of the older games and the remaster is nothing like crysis...it's actually great.
Thoughts and opinions below did you buy it and are you enjoying the 1 2 3 4 multiplayer...post stats here also and maybe we can make a NBR clan.

How many people are playing on steam

I got it when it first dropped (courtesy of my buddy--the incremental rollout pricing package made it convenient to gift), was super stoked for 2&3 with the AWESOME toggleable-by-game customized matchmaking, but I stopped gaming since.
Really well done, and it was so cool to have the xboxlive acc unlocks from the good ol days transfer over--sheathed katana on back, armor effects etc.
I had a great time playing and would highly recommend as a must-have for any boomer halo fan. $10/game, everything was classic and classy, all boxes checked...shrug, what more can you ask for...especially these days

yeah developers seem too not care these days because we buy their crap.

Just in case anyone missed the drop, Halo 3 ODST released on steam earlier this week.

oh nice I thought it's been out for a while..thanks for that....this is a pretty amazing game package as a whole...
-
This game is pretty much the best this side of Counter Strike for multiplayer... dozens of maps, wicked selection of game types and some pros are playing it in social...highly recommend at least checking it out, instant buy for FPSers

I'm looking forward to the release of Halo 4 on steam. Out of all the Halo games I've played, Halo 4 is by far my most favorite game out of the entire series. I know it gets a lot of hate, but I don't really understand it. The story was very interesting and the enemies were just as fun to fight as in all the previous games.
I also really hope Halo 5 gets a steam release too. It wouldn't make sense not to have a steam release as literally all the other Halo games besides Halo Wars 2 will be on steam by the release of Halo Infinite. I also know that one gets a lot of hate, but I think it'll be a really fun game based on what I've seen.
A trend I've noticed is that I tend to enjoy games that get a lot of hate from others. That makes me question whether people genuinely dislike the games or if they're just being idiots. It also makes me question their taste in games if they genuinely dislike them. For example, Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare gets a lot of hate, but I think it's actually a really good game. I loved the campaign and found it a lot of fun, not to mention the interesting story. I think most of the hate comes from people who never bothered to play the campaign and just played the multiplayer. I think that's stupid since they didn't judge the game fairly, but then again, I only get games for their campaigns/story. Others may only care about multiplayer, but at that point you might as well play something like Overwatch instead.JRE84 likes this. -
halo 5 is out for pc but its trimmed down a huge amount....basically forge with only custom games...
-
Yeah we need the campaign too. That's the most important and the best part of the game.

Agreed, campaigns are the highlight of the Halo series for me. The lore, visual design, and soundtrack of the Bungie Halos are top notch. Reach is my favorite one, absolutely love the art direction and overall aesthetic of it. Multiplayer wise, Halo definitely isn't my cup of tea anymore. I played a ton of Halo PC back in the day, but nowadays the movement and TTK just feel way to slow for me.

do you guys remember the original halo on the original xbox...it was revolutionary. that is exactly what microsoft needs not a sequel but something revolutionary.

has anyone tried cross play co-op with mcc halo 2...that would be epic
-
I haven't tried that yet, but it would be interesting to see it work.
The Halo 4 PC beta is live, so we can expect Halo 4 to release on steam in about a month or so. It'll definitely release before Christmas.JRE84 likes this. -
does anyone know if cross play is available....would love to play halo 2 with my dad
-
halo infinite might be here summer 2021

That's some good news. I hope 343i fixes the weird cartoony graphics and gives us photorealistic graphics. That was the aim of all the halo games except for the first one.
As for crossplay, I have no idea since I haven't tested it. I'd say there may be a chance since you have to sign into xbox live.
I'd like to see halo 5 come to steam too. That'd be awesome.JRE84 likes this. -
It looks like from various sources halo MCC will not be able to crossplay with PC however infinite will...sorta good cept infinite looks like a Xbox 360 game
-
The graphics during the gameplay demo were very underwhelming. Infinite looks worse than Halo 4. I was expecting photorealism at this point.
I know gameplay is the most important thing in a game, but the graphics should not regress in quality with newer titles. That's stupid. -
yrekabakery Notebook Virtuoso
I don't think the Halo franchise was ever going for photorealism in visuals. I mean, most sci-fi games don't. To me, Halo's strength was its art direction, with colorful visuals and dynamic lighting and large, open environments.
cfe likes this. -
There's no doubt the environments are the wow factor in the Halo games. Regardless of whether the goal was photorealism or not, there's clearly something wrong when the next entry in the series regresses in graphical fidelity. Halo 4 and 5 have more detail than Infinite as far as I saw. I thought that was a letdown.
I'm still looking forward to playing the game. I just hope the clay-like appearance everything has gets fixed. -
Yeah does anyone wanna chime in to explain why Crysis from 2007 is more photorealistic than say cyberpunk 2077 and it has not been released yet...why are games starting to look cartoony and Corny
-
It's probably a way to cut production costs. It's weird though when a game much older looks better than titles released or releasing this year.
Fortunately this isn't true of the whole market. I think Star Wars: Squadrons looks pretty good. Most Frostbite Engine games do a pretty good job at achieving realistic visuals.JRE84 likes this. -

I don't think CP2077 is going for photorealism like Crysis does, even though both technically fall under the sci-fi umbrella. Cyberpunk is more like Blade Runner or Deus Ex aesthetic wise.
-
Yeah. I remember back in 1998 a game magazine had pictures of thps remastered for the Sega Dreamcast and it looked really good then when the game came out it was a pixelated mess...now in 2020 we get sneak peaks and games look more or less on par what is shown.
Do you guys know how many polygons these games are pushing...they must be in the tens of millions by now...more then enough for photorealistic models and 8gb vram being more than enough for high resolution pictures of real objects that can wind up as textures....I was just expecting games to be like playable movies by 2020... disappointing.. -
That would be really nice.
As for triangle count, that really depends on the game. For the most realistic ones, I'd expect in the millions to a few tens of millions. Ideally you'd want to use the least amount of polygons possible while still maintaing super high graphical fidelity, which can be achieved within a budget of a few million triangles.
This is possible by massively reducing the polygon count of objects far away from the player, so they wouldn't have been able to see the detail anyway. This decreases the load on the vertex processors in the GPU.JRE84 likes this. -
and you dont think the goverment is behind this....cartoony graphics in 2020 over 10 million polygons and 8gb vram......absurd
-
Looks like we have another year to wait..sigh..anyone got an update as I can only find stuff 4 months old
-
Oh nice thanks for that..at least 2 good games I want
-
Halo 4 released today, thereby completing the master chief collection on PC. At long last we get to play all the Halo games (besides 5 and the yet to be released Infinite) on Steam!
Also crossplay has been added for multiplayer. I have no idea if this works for campaign mode or not. -
cross play between steam and game store or with xbox because ive been dying to play mcc with my dad -
yrekabakery Notebook Virtuoso
Between PC and Xbox. Steam and MS Store were already able to play together.

halo 4 looks soooooooooo good for a 8 year old game....very impressed and yes crossplay is here but its not for campaign as far as I heard, havent been able to test it out.
-
Indeed. Halo 4's graphics have held up really well. It still looks like a modern game.
The performance is also better than any of the previous entries on the CPU side as well. CPU usage in Halo 4 is significantly lower for me than any of the other entries, signifying very good optimization. I sometimes experience frame dips in the first and second entries. Instead of tacking on a bunch of post processing effects, they should have been remade with a modern engine.
In any case, the 4th game is my most favorite, so I'll be playing that most of the time anyway. I know it gets a lot of hate, but I love the forerunner storyline and fighting the promethean knights.
As I've said in the past, games that get a lot of hate frequently end up being good games for me. I don't understand this.JRE84 likes this. -
yeah im getting good cpu utilization also. im getting over 60fps so im happy...have you heard any news on halo 5/ infinite
Clamibot likes this. -
I'm a 120 fps gamer so I'm a big stickler for good optimization, which is further influenced by my philosophy as a programmer.
As for news on Halo 5 and Infinite, I heard Infinite got delayed to sometime in 2021. As for Halo 5, I haven't heard anything about it yet. Fingers crossed it comes to steam. My dad and I got the disk for the Xbox One a few years ago expecting to be doing couch coop together, only to find out 343 industries idiotically omitted split screen. It's been sitting on a shelf ever since. We'd like to finally be able to do coop in Halo 5 on PC together.JRE84 likes this. -

I keep reinstalling MCC and it says halo 4 is not installed even though windows store shows it is. Anyone else have this issue ? In settings it shows installed in-game as well but locked
-
The steam version is fine. I'm guessing this is a problem exclusive to the windows store version. Try deleting your config files and see if that helps. Both versions of the MCC store player config data in AppData\LocalLow\MCC.
Or you could manually manipulate the config files and see if you can get the checkbox for Halo 4 unfrozen.HaloGod2012 likes this. -
I had that exact same issue with forza horizon 4 i say forget the hassle and get it for steam
Clamibot likes this. -
UWP apps and the Windows store really are garbage and I avoid them if possible. Steam is a really good platform, so yes consider getting the MCC on steam. As far as I'm concerned, it's hassle free.

it's looking like halo 5 will come out soon. halo 5 custom mp is already out and with current trends its looking real....however we might have to wait 6 months....and yes this is a big deal for fps fans
-
Seeing as how all the other Halo games will be on Steam when Infinite releases, it makes no sense to exclude Halo 5. I'd love to finally be able to play that co-op with my dad. We're not going to get a second Xbox just for that.
I'd say there's a good chance Halo 5 releases on Steam before Infinite does. Most of the assets are already there in Halo 5: Forge. There are quite a bit of people who couldn't care less since they think the game sucked, but there are also a lot of people who would buy it.JRE84 likes this. -
currently im playing the MCC with my dad in mutliplayer and its pretty fun but hard, really good players. and @Clamibot thats exactly what I want to do also play with my dad in halo 5 co-op..I also hope they release co op for MCC it really makes no sense...

I bought the MCC over christmas. Runs at 200 fps for a few mins then slowly the framerate decreases and the frametimes become really bad to the point that 70fps feels like 10fps. This happens even if running in the old graphics mode. CPU usage is like 10% GPU usage is 10% and temps are low 60's and it just seems to get slower and slower.
i can get about 15 minutes of gameplay before it becomes unplayable. I can see a few other people have this from googling it but there seems to be no fix.JRE84 likes this. -
wierd bro. Im getting 160fps with a 1060 on enhanced and it never feels slow always feels like 60fps...weird

Tried older graphics drivers and running different compatibility modes too with gpu scheduling on/off. It is a really odd issue, never seen anything like it before. Even limiting to 60fps doesn't prevent it happening. Anti-Virus turned on/off.
I'm at a loss with it and can no longer refund as i spent too long troubleshooting. It's a shame as i was looking forward to playing them all co-op with a friend but i've admitted defeat with it now. -

It must of been some strange OS related reason would of been nice to know exactly what but at least it's working.
