After a year of being used to pitch Windows 8's app store and Windows Phone, Microsoft is releasing its top-down twin-stick shooter Halo: Spartan Assault to Win7 machines via Steam. It'll cost $4.99. In my opinion, it's worth every penny. It's not a AAA game but it's not meant to be one, and it's one heck of a good twin-stick shooter. There are control schemes for KB&M, touchscreen, and I think gamepad.

I wonder if the keys would be re-bindable this time. If they were before, I couldn't find the spot :p - I had the free version though, if that makes the difference.

The original Halo PC is still 1000x better and Halo Custom Edition mods over 9000x better. Halo 2 Vista also sucks less. This embarrassment doesn't deserve the Halo name on it.

Why are you comparing AAA first person shooters to a designed-to-be-inexpensive top down shooter? Apples and oranges.

I'm not, I'm simply saying it was a pitiful effort and not deserving of the Halo name. Long-suffering Halo fans on PC deserve something much better, but we're just an afterthought compared to Xbox in the eyes of M$.

I've always loved the original Halo series. This is definitely something I'm going to keep an eye on. Thanks for sharing.

It's just a franchise "thang". There was a Mass Effect iOS game, Splinter Cell games for dumbphones, heck even crappy Deus Ex: The Fall was released not so long ago.
Just deal with it or ignore. Both work pretty well!

You're missing the point completely of this game. On a touchscreen tablet its actually a lot of fun, great time killer that requires no keyboard, mouse or even controller, although all of those are supported.

I paid $6 for it a year ago and still enjoy it when on the go and have some time to kill.

I have the paid version and I don't see an option to re-bind keys in this either. Also, looking again, the Win8.1 version doesn't have gamepads as an option, even though that's the only option for the Xbox version. Hopefully the Steam version includes all three control schemes as options.

That's exactly how I feel about it. It's still my favorite game on my Duo 11, even though I do "serious gaming" on my Vaio F23 or on a console. For a $5 game (not a AAA game discounted to $5 in a Black Friday sale, but a game designed to be $5) to have this sort of long-lasting appeal is unusual.
