Got Hard Reset it was released today on Steam.

I have 2 hours in and just wanted to say I really like this game so far.

Really takes me back to the days when a shooter was based on shooting and skill and fast reflexes and just having fun.

Kind of has that old school Unreal Tournament 2004 feel but merged in with another game that I really liked called Singularity.

So has these futuristic dark environments, lots of cool weapons that you yourself must choose when to upgrade/acquire them via the upgrade system and when/how to use them. Environment plays a big role in combat you have to use it to both kill enemies more easily and stay safe from them.

Graphics engine is amazing and runs well, it just looks simply stunning on Ultra, but scaled back well to lower settings for when I needed a higher frame rate for my more extreme resolution testing (5940x1200)

Well when I see a game this fun I just think it deserves a post, and it's a Indie title so I always feel they deserve any coverage I can give them since they dont get the same attention as the big name devs.

Bottom line, if you want a fast paced, eye candy filled, edge of your seat shooter with lots of creative weapons and combat take a look.

If you want a long story driven narrated linear shooter dont even take a peek.

Cool, got any video impressions up or something? I've been hearing how graphically this game looks.

yeah I should have said something about the demo, I never played the demo though so didn't think about it.

I do have a video coming up for it but its a surround feature video devs are doing a patch to fix the hud and then I am doing the recording.

Maybe I will do a little single screen impressions video but I have pretty much limited myself to only recording let's plays and I cant do a new one till I finish the old one.

btw. for anyone getting annoyed at the menu transition stuff in the demo, they added a "fast menus" checkbox to the full game.

They also added FOV controls (up to 90 I think)

Yeah goes from like 60 to 90 and there is a fast menu checkbox. The game is fully mod'able as well devs even posted where the files are and what they are to help get the community started with any mods they want to do.

Think I'll try to do a little "mini review" or "showcase" video later since this is what I want to play when I get home.

I want to mod the HUD to play surround but on my current wifi that I am on it will take all night for the game to download :(

Great game, love the atmosphere, the voice acting on the other hand, well that sounds disjointed and weird. Still great game though, a lot of fun to play.

Heard about this one for some time now. Gonna give it a try. Seems that nowadays you can't go wrong with indie titles. :D

My Steam "to be played" list is already daunting, but it sounds like I need to add this to the list. Thanks for the recommendation!

Thanks for the heads up vicious. I am finding I am liking these "old school style" shooters more and more. Brainless fun when you feel like just killing things in creative ways, lol.

There was another game I think released this year, and can't remember the name of it, but you had the ability to use like a spidey rope coming out of your arm to lasso baddies and kill them. I had fun with the demo, but can't for the life of me remember the name of the game. Any help? I really enjoyed the demo and was going to buy it eventually. Should have added it to my Wishlist.

Bulletstorm. A surprisingly fun game that runs quite well on lower-spec machines.

I played the demo and have a video up somewhere in my youtube channel "hotcaketheory".

I hope Steam lowers the price so I can grab this game.

I tried the demo as well. At first, I had to get back to old school arcade shooting when back in the day where it wasn't filled with gun sights. After that, I had a blast, it felt ever so good taking down those giant enemies.

Like eleven said, I won't be buying it until it's low priced.

Coming to GreenManGaming soon I hear, probably will be cheaper there.

I bought Dead Island for $33 from there instead of $50 from steam.

I've been playing the game for about 4 hours or so and I've been enjoying it.

I made it up to Level 2, Sector 6, Checkpoint 9 and now I'm totally stuck. Playing on Insane difficulty and I have managed to get through every battle except this one.

It starts where you open a door to a courtyard where there are numerous of the small "shooty" robots patrolling the upper level who fire energy balls at you.

If you manage to defeat all of them, then suddenly they get reinforced by more shooty robots on the balcony and two gorillas on the lower level.

I tried hiding from the gorillas behind a dumpster in the corner, but the gorillas are still able to kill me.

Anyone else beat this area on Insane?

So, any total playtime length? I hate 6-10 hour shooters. (or less...)

Yes, I was also blown away by how well it runs on my laptop at 1920x1080, all settings maxed to "Ultra". I didn't even need to overclock my GPU. This game is very well optimized, it seems.

Also the art direction is gorgeous. They did an excellent job of capturing the vibe of Bladerunner.

Blade Runner you say? Now you've caught my interest! :D

Although Blade Runner wasn't much about run and gun and blow things up. And Blade Runner was 2019 and this is 2436... but I digress. :p

The devs captured something of the vibe of the cool urban environments in Bladerunner (without the crowds of people, unfortunately).

There is not really much of a story in Hard Reset, certainly nothing resembling the story of Bladerunner.

Then you must play very few shooters these days.

I'd rather have a quality 6-hour game that I can enjoy and potentially replay than a mediocre 15-hour one that's a slog to complete. Even then, if you have a problem with the cost/length of gameplay ratio, wait for the price to drop, either on its own or via a Steam sale.

That's probably what I'll do. I'm not a big multiplayer person, so game length is a big issue with me. Quality is nice though. Medal of Honor (2010) had a great campaign, but it was only a few hours long. I only paid about $6 for the game, so I was ok with that.

I'll probably just wait for a Steam sale on this one.

I'll report back on game length as soon as I finish it. So far I've played 4.2 hours and I'm in Level 2, Section 6, Checkpoint 9 (perhaps 30-40% completed?).

I think it helps that I'm playing on "Insane" mode - if I played the game on easy mode I don't think it would last very long at all.

I would probably suggest to wait for it to go on sale as well. I pre-ordered immediately after playing the demo, without any knowledge of how short the game is. I was expecting it to last 20-30 hours, like Bioshock. In my case, for any game with duration less than 30 hours, I usually wait for it to go on sale below $10; however, I had already pre-ordered when I learned about the short duration and it is not very easy to cancel a Steam pre-order.
