Has anyone broken the 3.5mm jacks to their headphones clean off?

I was playing some PC games today while my sons were napping. One woke up screaming at the top of his lungs, so I jumped and lunged out of my seat to see what was going on, the cord was wrapped around my foot, then the chair, and it tripped me and the chair over, and pulled the cables right out of the jacks, with the jacks still in the computer.

Kind of comical actually when all said and done, and I think my kid just had a nightmare is all.

Anyhow, has anyone successfully repaired their headphones cables and jacks? Is there a place to buy new jacks? This is a nice $100 Sennheiser headset I've had for a few years. I hate to spend another $100 if I can help it, but I'm afraid if I repair it, I'll end up getting hissing or crackles. Maybe just eBay as a broken headset and at least maybe recover $20 and let some do-it-yourself hack fix it?

Now I have to go back to my earbuds for the time being, no mic for BF2... sigh.

I could probably fix it for you if you sent it to me. you probably need a new jack. That'd be fairly cheap. I could even put heat shrink around the end, so it's not just taped on.

    IF you can solder:

Get a 1/8 in jack and some heat shrinking tube. You can get it at cable supply companies ( www.avcable.com I used to work for them) or even radioshack (shudder). You'd obviously need a soldering gun.

Ground (black) goes to sleeve. Signal goes to Red (tip). Heatshrink over the end to keep it together and make a sweet looking end. Generally that is done with a special gun (Essentially a high powered hair dryer) but a hair dryer works. It just takes a bit longer.

Ouch... Power plugs and audio plugs should all use magnetic connections as the cable that have the most chance of being pulled or tripped on are plugged there...

Well if they stay plugged in there, then something else is going to have to go down...

I never really saw the point of magnetic connections, in any part of a laptop, whether it be the hinge or the cables.

The point of magnetic connections is that they let go easily, so that if you trip over a cable, the cable comes off with no harm to whatever its attached to.
