I want to hear how WoW plays on a 3g connection from people who actualy have done it. I'm thinking about getting a 2nd 3g phone so that i can tether my laptop for the purpose of internet surfing, and playing wow. I know i cant play fps games because the ping would be to high, but you can play wow with a bit higher of a ping... im hoping around 300. Mostly for leveling. Right now my phone only has EDGE and its almost impossible to play with EDGE latency of around 900.

I have a Sprint Novatel 720 wireless card and I use it everyday to play WOW and other online games. WOW shows that my ping is usually between 250-500ms which for me plays perfectly fine. Sometimes it will jump up over 1000 and lag for a few seconds but it either stays there for a couple of seconds or I just reset the connection and it works fina again. I have also used it to play TF2 and Fear, for these games I pick the server with the lowest latency which is usually around 200 and it plays alright. I wouldnt suggest playing a ranked match for those games though because you will be at a disadvantage. Now having said all that I was under the impression that the Edge network was slower than Sprint's network and that since you're using a phone and not a dedicated wireless card you may get different performance.

I would suggest visiting http://www.evdoforums.com/ and reading about your particular phone and network.

Here are my results this morning from speedtest, I'm not sure why the d/l is so low but you can see the ping.

Well I don't play WoW but just for others who play games like World in Conflict I get around 100ms normally in a good Sprint Service area using the Sierra Aircard 597E. So 3g is efficient to do some gaming. I have yet to try first person shooters on 3g.

I think sprints evdo, and AT&T's 3g hspda is pretty similar. EDGE sucks for playing any games. I'm pretty sure tethering through a decent phone like a Moto v3xx should be just as good as having a card.
Anyone actualy on ATT 3g done this?
