Thanks for reading. I am looking at a HP Dv6700t with:

Intel Pentium Dual Core T2390 1.9 GHz
    2 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS with 128MB dedicated RAM
    Vista Home Premium

Any advice would be great as to how this would run COD4. Which is not my main focus, so Im not worried about highest setting. I did have a desktop (which I sold) with lower specs that handled COD4 fine. Im just not very familiar with laptops yet.

    Thanks-

9200m gs gddr3 can run CoD 1024x640, high textures (everything else low) at ~30.
The 9200m gs is equivalent to a 8300m which is a downclocked 8400m so yeah, I reckon it could pull it off... just :)

Low - medium settings on a lower resolution should be playable.

Well my desktop's ATi 9600XT (kinda old lol) can run it at 800x600 with settings at "normal" no AA or AF and all texture settings on "extra" I get 60-70FPS. Oh I only have 512mb RAM + 2.2Ghz Athlon 64.

Will this set-up over heat running the game?

Most components in a laptop are designed to run at a maximum and hopefully survive. This doesn't remove your responsibility to help encourage proper cooling. Raising the back end of the laptop helps facilitate airflow beneath the laptop. Many of us also resort to using aftermarket cooling pads.

Honestly, an 8400 running full steam ahead shouldn't produce an extreme amount of heat, even if it is being pushed to the max. Just make sure your laptop has good airflow beneath it, and on all sides and everything should be fine (ignoring the fact that most all 8 series Nvidias are defective and are extremely prone to overheating).

It will definitely run. I'd estimate 1024x768 with everything on low/medium or 1280x800 with everything on low.

As for overheating, just use HW Monitor to track your temps while you game. If your GPU ever reaches the 80s or higher you might want to get a USB notebook cooler.

The 8400Gs should run cod4 on the lowest settings.

I ran cod4 on my 8400m gs at 1024x768 medium settings and it ran at 40-50 fps. Sometimes dropping into the low 20s but that was rare.
