-
has anyone bought it?
-
Some users here said they buy it but when asked for pictures or a review they've didn't post anymore, anyway this is amazing let's hope that this company won't be acquired by big gaming laptop's company.
-
Hey Randomdude
Sticky= Thread that doesn't move... ie like a sticky note... It stays put even while other threads drop down and away as other topics become more prevenlant..
To the Mods... My reason for wanting this stickied... is if they can pull it off this will be a major revoltuion in the way Laptop/Notebooks are looked at considering high performance and gaming... Other than computers and laptops in general I think this is one of the biggest tech innovations to come along in a very long time... Though this is only my opinion

Hey sergioadh
Could you imagine if they got this to work with a netbook? No true the cpu would be crappy, but even so have this badboy able to hook up to any notebook netbook lappie with a expresscard slot!!! (not sure netbooks have em though?).. That would be just awesome!... Also awesome if you could sli your dedicated card with the one in the box (are you listening Nvidia driver support?)... Anyways yes the future of laptop gaming begins when the ViDock 4 is availableAnd what a future it will be
A/J -
They could even release a Vidock especially for Netbooks -
Lethal Lottery Notebook Betrayer
Not sure about this. I mean it sounds great but lets wait till we see a finished product that is relevant. The current offering from them is not better than most performance laptops gpu and not worth all the external trouble. If this does eventually become available I will be buying this instead of a secondary laptop for gaming. Apple should get ahold of this technology. -
Maybe Ill buy an ATI HD4890 right now(or maybe I should wait for the 5000 series)
Ill use it on my home desktop and then Ill plug it on the vidock4
.
Just think of using an HD4890 with a laptop.
-
thanks for clarifying sticky for me.
ya i hope so also
mexican snake, i was thinking the same thing but you gotta watch out for cpu bottle necking. just go to like xtopic/powernotebooks and get the fastest cpu u can (3.0ghz) lol on a 13 incher. would be total kick ha.
such a great idea.
PICS AND REVIEWS!!! COMMON PEOPLE!WE'LL BE YOUR BEST FRIENDS HAHA
-
i would put a 4870x2 on that thing
or even this gtx 295 -
, BUT if it becomes a noticeable bottleneck then Ill get a T9900 aka 3.06ghz
.
But wow thats power my friend.
YER Im dying for a review or multiple benchmarks.
-
I think I'd wait for nVidia to be ready, find a nice happy little GTX 285FTW and hook that in for good measure. And when I'm gaming on the road, I still have the GTX 260m to fall back on. Best of all worlds!
(Wouldn't mind seeing an SLi version either!)

I will post pics in the morning of the ViDock. I got it working with my 5797 (although not much of a gain with the current video card). I will show some fps reports also.
-
, please tell us about your system.
-
I think the Vidock will lose a huge number of sales if it will never be able to drive the internal screen of the laptop.
I was thinking about buying one and then remembered this limitation, I must have gotten carried away and forgot all about this lol. -
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
You guys know that the Vidock is bottlenecked by the expresscard connection, right? You'll only get a fraction of the power of any high-end video card you put in. Am I missing some kind of change between the release and now?
-
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
No, you only lose around 8% of the power from the card you put in.
Edit: also who cares about how much you lose, this thing lets you play the latest games with high setting on your notebook.
@LaptopNut, I think you're right. I will only buy one when it can drive my internal screen. -
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
Is the vidock2 a big improvement over the original?
-
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
The ones without a video card in them are called "ViDock blank".
-
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
Aren't they called vidock2-box?
-
Whatever man it's still cool
.

ViDock 2 IS the original.
Here is what too many people are missing. They want to do calculations and theorize about bottlenecks or other limitations instead of focusing on the simple fact that it will beat any comparable LAPTOP video card, and it is upgradeable.
I know this thread is now over 22 pages long, but all of this has already been covered in depth earlier in the thread. Please take a few minutes to read it over and your concerns will melt away. -

I have not looked into this product too heavily but I know there were limitations in the old design that limited it to the power of a 8600GT anything higher gave similar performance.
This is using a different setup so maybe the limitation is removed, but I am thinking its just moved higher not eliminated completely. -

ViDock 2 Blank or Box...take your choice, they are both the same thing.
-
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
Their site says that the ViDock GFX is discontinued, and is replaced by the ViDock2. The ViDock2 seems like the newest version, Palidan. I don't see anything newer on their site.
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Vicious...you are not talking about the same product or technology.
There has never been an nVIDIA card that would work with ExpressCard. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
The Gfx and the ViDock 2 are different products for different markets.
The Gfx was simply for multiple monitor use, primarily for stock traders and business users...they were never intended to be used as a gaming video adapter, or to be upgradeable.
The only similarity is they are from the same company, and use the same root name. -
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
Oh, thanks for clearing that up. Has anyone ever tried using any of ATI's more powerful cards? TomsHardware seemed pretty disappointed with the ViDock GFX PRO's performance with higher-end cards.

PLEASE, take a few minutes to read this thread. Your question has already been asked and answered.
In addition, the ViDock 3 and 4 have been discussed. Each one takes different class cards...from the ATi 4670 up to the ATi 4890...and of course beyond with each new generation to which you will be able to upgrade. -

I don't see where I can get more info on the vidock3 and 4 aside from this thread, including purchase info. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks again.

I dont think I have ever had an express card slot on one of my laptops so I cant even use this if I wanted.
They should find a way to do it with e-sata. -
-
But that day is faaaaaaar away.
-
-
yo michal, the vidock 3/4 are not out yet. please go and read this forum.
2= mainstream cards-small
3= performance-bigger
4= kick butt-biggest card
it seems like this whole forum has done a full cycle. when reading i found that we were really going places then people started to bring up every question again. its been really diluted. REREAD! THANKS -
There should be a new thread or maybe in this thread (STICKY) explaining about EVERYTHING related to the vidock2-3-4 including videos, where to buy, bencharks, comments, tech info, images, descriptions etc etc etc etc in ONE single post. Its a hard work I know but it only has to be compiled.
That would be helpful and awesome.
-
so paladin, have you guys done the benchmarks and found if it is compatible with the laptops own screen yet?
-
This is all we got for the moment http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qE5NmURV5P8 and it looks promising.
-
Here is my report -- darn early adopter....

Steiner32,
It would be nice of you if you can make a video, review it.
This would give everyone here at nbr an idea about this product.
Thanks -

Well Im really starting to lose faith since the user review said the MBP did not work.

I think that compatibility issues will be solved after all it'a new product.

Does anyone know if the Vidock is better than the asus xg station?
If it is, why?
Is it more powerfull, more compatible or does it run cooler?
Because I can get the asus much cheaper than the Vidock so if they are the same I will just get the asus.
Also would it be possible to mod the ViDock2 to take the same size/performence cards as the vidock3/4? -
That's lame. Its much easier and cheaper to just get a small form factor gaming desktop.
-
As of now, I'm using an "old" desktop machine at work, a ASUS V1s (15", T7300, 8600GT) for home use, such as gaming and an Acer Aspire One if I need a really portable computer.
If the Vidock works with the 12" ~1.5kg Thinkpad x200s, I could have allmost the portability of the Aspire One, better performance than the desktop at work, and better performance that my "gaming" machine.
All this without having to keep several systems in sync =)
Have you seen this yet? Now you can not only UPGRADE your video card, you can use DESKTOP video cards with your Laptop!
