I've never played a Hearts of Iron game, though looking at Hearts of Iron IV has my interest peaked! Almost makes me want to pick up Hearts of Iron III and give that a shot, though I do find that the reportedly more accessible route IV is taking sounds more my speed. Here's a PCGamesN preview:

Anyone interested? Anyone have anything to say about the previous games in the series?

Also, there is a "stretch goal" type thing going on for community signups, the Axis is winning big time!. BOOOO HITLER!!
Here's my signup referral URL, lets go Allies!!

If you sign up with that I get some sort of "points", not sure what good they are. EDIT: I just saw that the beta invites will be sent to 10 people that have at least 20 referrals. :)

just bought a new gaming laptop for hoi4 ... might have been over zealous when i ordered. And hoi3 is very fun, but all of the expansions are needed to make it truly playable.

Is it a huge time investment to learn it?

Yes, the time investment is rather large when compared to your typical fps. But after watching a few videos and playing the tutorial you should be fine. Plus it will make you more familar with the series and make hoi4 easier to learn.
