I've been trying to play hellgate london the past couple of days but I'm having some issues. The game runs fine in outposts I can keep a FPS of 51, but when I go out and start fighting it drops horribly. Usually drops below 20 and it's definitly noticable. I know I don't have the best video card out but I was pretty sure i would be able to play the game with ease. I have all the setting turn down to Low, no background processes are running latest drivers and still I get lag.

Anyone know what's going on? Or is my video card just not enough to play the game?

What resolution are you running the game in?

1280x800 medium/high settings with an overclock to 500/500 and I am in 140+fps inside and solid 50/60s outside...

My fans are really cranked so I know its using alot of cpu power too. I have a different 8600gt than you and more ram and a better cpu so there are alot of factors.

Still make sure you have new drivers (I am using 169.01) and if you can handle it overclocking your card may help alot.

Dont forget to turn down the resolution and play with settings not so important (I play with low AA, and low AF)

 Another Inspiron 1520 - those things don't seem to game very well judging by the huge amount of gaming problems listed in the forum. :p
In all seriousness I don't think your video card/chip is the problem. Would you list each of your settings for your GPU? List all of your current in game settings, and anything in Windows that is not set to application controlled. The people who are running 8600 GTs and Hellgate with out problems can then tell you what they have configured differently.

While you wait for a reply ;) I recommend you look at the OS (and notebook) tweaking guide(s) you can find in the forum and at TweakGuides.com . Even though you said you have your background applications closed you may have services running that may be hindering your performance.

I think it might be just lag, or some bug in the multiplayer.

I have a 1520 with an 8600M GT, it runs Crysis and Call of Duty 4 friggen amazingly.

The singleplayer with settings on high/very high and no AA runs very smoothly, but in multiplayer the game slows down frequently, though less often when I turn the settings down, even when soloing and with smaller encounters than what went smoothly in singleplayer.

There is definitely some degree of lag online even on my fast internet connection however I think its pretty easy to tell the difference from poor frame rate and lag.

I think I know why my cpu use is so high, I think it has alot to do with my class in the game. As a summoner I have like 10 minions and my cpu has to run all of there AI, definitely dont be a summoner if you have a slow computer :p

works great for me tho because I am usually playing at work and if I have to go AFK they watch my back, also its nice to have protection while I break down items into parts.

I'm not playing online so there is no lag time it's all related to the fps.

    Just curious...

Is VSync needed on LCD panels? I thought that was a CRT setting...

And not that this makes any difference for you, but higher end emulators on my PSP suffer about a 20% framerate hit with VSync enabled...

I only use VSync if sprites or textures are tearing or disappearing while playing...dunno...

Vsync is optional and often it improves the percieved visual quality and sometimes you don't notice the difference. Also I think indiviual tasttes play an important role. A friend of mine was experiencing tearing on his games and he didn't even notice until I pointed it out specifically, now he notices it and can't stand playing without v-sync.

I recommend enabling Triple buffering. That should help improve your performance.
