Hello all. Let's make this short and sweet. I'm currently using 390.77 Nvidia drivers and there's bugs with the lighting in some games, and some other glitches in others. I'm pretty lazy and hate updating drivers, but well, I need to update them. I don't want to go backwards, but rather forward, and just want a driver that generally will be fairly stable. The latest drivers looked good until I saw multiple people getting hard stutters with it, so I'm gonna pretty much avoid that one. But otherwise, which from these should I update to? Or does desktop modded 398.36 fix stutters?

You can see some footage of the lighting bug here. The weird pulses/bloom also show up in Doom 2016 and Lichdom Battlemage, neither of which had the issues on other drivers. Overwatch also seems to hate this driver:

(don't worry the above is 100% an OW issue and not a dying card or anything, it's been around since 2016 but doesn't usually happen on most drivers)
I know most will say just stick to 388.71 though.

I'm on the 391.01 driver, seems to most stable and best for my GTX 1060. Didnt bother going for newer onces due to people reporting errors.

Using the nVIDIA Graphics Driver v391.74 here. Works perfectly

The few responses and heavy viewcount tell me everything I need to know about drivers lately...

I always stick to Vulkan Developer drivers, always performed well for me without problems. Not WHQL, but that doesn't mean anything anymore. -
D2 Ultima, are you looking for a driver for your Pascal card? So which one you chose?
-
@D2 Ultima Try the vulkan development driver 396.97 from j95. Works flawless.

This sounds like a nice plan then.
I hadn't picked one yet to be honest. I guess now's as good a time as any I suppose.MahmoudDewy and Vasudev like this. -
@D2 Ultima Newer nvidia development driver 398.58 generic version corrupted my games and crapped out after starting games. So, install j95 drivers since it worked somewhat better than nvidia stock. Games crash(stock) vs j95 (20-30 FPS in TW3) tells the massive difference.
Stick to j95's 397.96 drivers. Overclocks better, performs better than WHQL/hotfix drivers eventhough its beta.D2 Ultima likes this. -
Yeah I downloaded the vulkan driver. I'll not be able to get valid futuremark runs but tbh I don't care too much about that. Rather best game performance

These drivers work for Windows 10 only? I am looking at it at premamod.worpress and drivers are called *_Win10.exe for a reason I suppose
Also PEG/Dedicated tells me there is no inf file for Optimus based laptops like which I have. Oh well, my search will be longer. -
But, I remember j95 sharing the optimus inf files.

So, I have the same strobe lighting/excessive bloom issue in Skyrim. I even disabled all mods to check on a fresh game. I don't remember it being there on game start but I could be completely wrong.
Anybody else have Skyrim SE and Pascal cards and is willing to check? @Phoenix you're probably the person I expect might have it most.
I'm downloading Doom to see now, if it still does it I might have to DDU and re-check with 378.92 which I know for sure works, and if that works i'll try an upgrade to 397.96 and see if that gets the bug out of the system.
And if it doesn't, welp I'm gonna have to get the machine checked and insurance for replacement cards D= -

I don't have Skyrim but I have Doom. Using Driver v 391.48 with 0 issues. The new ones cause stuttering for me in the game I'm playing at the moment which is FIFA 18 -
Well I finished Doom's download and I saw the strobing gone, though it did have a kind of light glitch still. But I confirmed that was there on my original playthrough and @yrekabakery also confirmed it happens to him too, so that's definitely a Doom bug not on my end.
In this case I think Skyrim might need some kind of reinstall or something. Nobody seems to know why it's doing it. The light strobing is gone from Lichdom Battlemage too, another game I tested that showed it on the save devices. -

I don't have Pascal but I tried Skyrim for the fun of it and I don't have these glitches. -
Yeah I think something is wrong with my Skyrim, rather than my GPU drivers, at this point. I might need to just delete it and re-install it and see.MahmoudDewy likes this.
Help me pick a driver
