Help me understand overwatch

I'm a pretty avid gamer, and out of nowhere this game busts out, overwatch. It's being marketed like wildfire. however, after watching some playing of it, i'm confused as to what is making it so popular. This looks like nothing more than a remake of team fortress 2, silly graphics, weird guns, and even weirder characters. Maybe I'm missing something, maybe i just didn't understand something. Can some of you let me know what's making it so appealing to YOU ?

It is definitely like TF2 but way better. And has more things going for it. Down under TF2 was actually the reason why this game was benched, and it was resurrected only a few years back.
Its not boring, its competitive, fun, and a breath of fresh air.

 

That is exactly the appeal.

Haven't had a chance to try Overwatch yet, but I've been eagerly following the development for a couple years specifically because it seems like TF2 on steroids.

TF2 is perhaps one of the most fun games of all time, certainly one of my favorites. It's not a mystery why Overwatch looks like so much fun.

On the other hand, if you hated TF2, maybe you will not enjoy Overwatch.

 

I hate tf2.. so.. this makes sense. Lol, thanks guys. I just wanted to make sure their wasn't some super secret awesome fun time zone thing I was missing..

 

Just different stokes for different folks. It peaked my interest but I'll keep playing Unreal Tournament alpha for my arena fix and hold out for Lawbreakers

 

Overwatch just clicks with me. It feels great, it plays great etc

THe map design is also excellent.

I never could get into TF2. Overwatch feels more like a first person MOBA than just a class based shooter.

THe shooting mechanics are done by some COD developers by the way.

Honestly this, but it feels a little bit more fun than TF2 due to the fact that it has way more classes, slightly better designed maps IMO, etc. I love both Overwatch and TF2.

Let me help.

Overwatch is a game of chicken to see who will play the healer or tank.
If you don't have them, you will lose horribly to any team who doesn't redefine terrible.
If you do play them, expect to be second fiddle and ignored by play-of-the-game even if you essentially carried the inept team to victory by being healer/tank/and main damage dealer.
(even if you do these things some bastion will manage to string two kills together and take play-of-the-game)

Essentially, either bring a team of friends/community members or play something else.

 

I love playing healer and tank, Mercy and D.va are all I play and I fairly rergularly get play of the game.

Of course when I don't get play of the game, it's always hilarious to watch the play of the game being like some guy getting no kills and jumping off the map - I've actually seen that as play of the game, LOL.

 

Same with my friend , his revives are just too well timed, none of ud match his positioning and timing. He actually gets more POGs than any of us.

Well... I mean, we don't really know what the Pyro looks like. Maybe Pyro is a waifu?

 

Same goes for shooters these days. Even in COD the match win or lose depends luck or if you have a cooperating team. If I play with my clan We win 95% of the time. If I play alone, and my stats are pretty good. I get constantly matches with losers in a team against a strong team.

 

very true, I win 90% of the time in my group, only about 10% of the time doing normal quickplay lol

 

The damage dealers he is playing with and against must royally suck as it seems to me the PotG is given to any damage dealer who can string 2 or more kills together (an absolutely unimpressive feat for them) even when compared to a healer completely saving the day like a clutch team revive in the objective zone in overtime to win the game.

This is taking not a thing away from your friend. This is the game's scoring system which is painfully weighted towards damage dealers.

The amount of times I've seen support of any kind get PotG is staggeringly small.
The amount of times I have seen Bastion win is brokenly rediculous. (guaranteed a certain strat is getting nerfed btw)

 

Yeah, that is true, a lot of times we just troll around and end up doing less damage than nerf darts xD
