    Hello forum members,

After a hot day I decided to decharge my battery, because I heard that was healthy for your battery. At 12 pm I uplugged my adapter, and run 3dmark05 so that the battery would go empty fast... This test was run on battery and on Full Performance and stock GPU settings

After 15 minutes I came back and saw an incredible score of 2605! I was shocked, because I get that score when I overclock to 372:330! I was very confused.

After that I clocked my card over to 372:330 and decided to run 3dmark05 again. When I came back I saw an incredible score of 2805! This was a new record for me, but a record on battery!

My question is: I usually play plugged in at 100% charge. How come that my notebook performs better on battery then plugged in?

    What I already have done:

    -Latest Omega drivers (6.3)
-Using NHC I have Full performance on battery and plugged in
    -BIOS update

The changing of scores cannot be a video driver update, because I runned the test on the same driver with same clocks. Anyone who can help me?

    Thanks,

    Charlie-Peru :)

EDIT: Sorry, I forgot the screenshot. As you can see the battery is at 11% and still I have an incredible score of 2805.
By the way POWERPLAY is disabled!

If PowerPlay is disabled that is why you can set higher clocks on battery. My notebook automatically downclocks on battery to about half speed in both core and memory; if I attempt to set higher clocks the notebook will crash due to conflicts with PowerPlay.
I don't think I would regard it as a problem; those are great scores.

What power saving mode is on when connected? Same as "full perfomance"?

    Yes same as Full performance...

It only gets crazier. MY score with 3dmark03 plugged in was 5555. On battery at the same overclock I get almost 6500... I just dont understand

That is very odd. Might have to see what happens on my ATI x300 on battery just out of curisoty. That baffles my mind as to why it would be better, let us know if you ever figure it out.

    Thanks for the reply Mark,

I just cant figure it out. At the same overclock, same CPU speeds I still get higher scores on battery. I have the latest BIOS, latest drivers...

    Really weird...

You are blowing my mind away too, lol. You know what, I am going to test right now my scores with and without battery, just out of curiosity. I'lll post what I find! :)

There must be "wires crossed" somewhere, literally :)

There must be a bug - while its on battery it thinks its plugged in and while its plugged in it thinks its on battery mode. That's the only reason I would think its doing a strange thing like that.

Mark84, you are having the same problem! Interesting... I think it is some kinda bug with ATI cards and some motherboards or something. Perhaps it will be cool if Chaz also would check it on AC and DC. Let us hear the results.

    Charlie :)

I'm still surprised that you can have your video card overclocked on battery. And the fact that you are getting higher scores is interesting indeed, keep us informed.
The only thing I can think of is that the video card is getting slightly more power than it would if it were plugged in, because since you are running on battery, certain components could be using reduced power and thus more is available to the video card.

Very interesting Chaz, that on battery it reduces powers on other components. I must say I do not dare to turn my laptop on these days, it is just too hot.

But the point is: which components use less power and why? I mean I had WLAN off at both tests, so less programs running at the background at possible at both tests...

It would be cool if you would check it too if you have time for it Chaz, but dont foget to turn off Powerplay if you start benching.

    Charlie :)

Today I had decided to test my notebook on battery with Oblivion. And yes, it is incredible. I am having less lag, a little bit of higher fps and the best thing: I have no stuttering of 0.5-1 second anymore!

I hate this stupid bug, wish it could be solves. Time to call F&S I think.

    Charlie :)
