Hey guys, I bought a dv5t from HP a week ago and it should be in very soon. I want to play crysis on all high settings if possible, Here are my specs and please tell me how to get at least 20fps on high settings. What program should I use and what should I overclock. I am still pretty much a noob at overclocking and plus I've never OC'd a laptop...![]()

Hm... I think you would be just fine running Crysis on Medium with those specs but really if you put it on high for anything you will have trouble...
Have you ever played Crysis before? If not then you will be surprised to see that even on Medium it looks better than most games do on max settings... -
Yea, I have played the crysis demo on kind of an old computer, 2.1 ghz processor at 667mhz with a 7600 gt or something, that was the first overclock I have ever done and I had to play on low settings still lol. I have heard that I can play crysis on medium with my computer and that crysis looks better than most platform games... But I still want to see my system runnin High settings.
-
your system can easily run high settings on many of the other new games out there, but crysis is a really intensive game, i wouldn't hold your breath.
-
I don't want to sound like a jerk, but no matter how high you clock that card, it will not run on all high (shaders, objects, shadows are killer) @ any resolution.
A good setup would be: Objects, Shaders & Shadows on Medium, everything else on High, and see how that runs @ 1200*800

Yeah... besides high (gamer) in crysis isn't even the highest, there is very high (aka enthusiast)
If I were you I would just try it out on Medium and see what you think.
Personally, I don't even run Crysis on all Medium with my setup because I like my games to run smooth frames, and my system has:
Nvidia 7950 GTX GPU
3 GB 667 Mhz RAM
2.0 Ghz C2D CPU
7200 RPM HD -
You don't? Strange... My old ATI X1950GT (desktop) was a bit faster than that 7950 Go GTX and I ran at 1280*1024 on all high except shaders/shadows/object on medium and got solid frames (19-39).

Perhaps yours and my definition of smooth frames is different but yes... -
You could easily overclock your graphics card using Rivatuner.
On a similar laptop like yours, I managed to play Crysis on high settings "gamer" at a playable FPS rate @1024X768.
You can definitely notice the difference of details between medium and high settings.
4GB of RAM are absolutely necessary to play crysis on vista.
With 2GB I couldn't watch even the cutscenes. -

Hi.
your better off using ntune to overclock as it is made by nvidia.
John. -
you can run the game on high, but you will end up with a VERY pretty slideshow.
-
hmm...Crysis does not change in fps with 1,2,3, or 4 GB's RAM (gamespot hardware performance guide - Crysis) so I don't think that is entirely correct, the cutscenes may need to load those video files, but an effect on FPS? no.
-
is there a guide to overclock the 8800m gtx wth ntune , and suggestions on which drivers to use ( trying to use ntune but it doesnt accept changes to clock speeds)
-
Of course does the lack of sufficient memory cripple the performance of Crysis.
Instead of using memory chips of nanosecs of access time, you are constantly using the swap file of your HDD with msecs of access time.
You get a stuttering effect all the time and minimum FPS of 0.
Try playing it with 1GB or 2GB and then with 4GB of ram under 64bit Vista.
Totally different experience (as long as you also have a powerful graphics card of course).
I've seen it with my own eyes.

I guess when I finally get my laptop, which is gonna be monday I just found out. Ill install the 4bg ram and try playing all on medium. Then I will make my judgment about the next step that I want to do. I game a lot on the xbox 360 and don't have to worry about things like this so yea. Im really new at being a pc gamer. But you guys have been a great help for me so far, I thank you!
-
No, no it does not
The required amount of RAM is 1GB, if you have 1GB, it makes no difference having 3,4,5,6, or 18GB's in actual gameplay.:

anytime, check out the link above ^^

You put a lot of faith in gamespot. I am on XP with 1GB of ram and I can tell the difference. It takes a minute when I change areas (as the new things load onto my ram) for everything to play smoothly. Also, 1GB on Vista is rediculous. Have you used vista? Vista itself will use that 1GB. Even if Crysis only needs 1GB, you need 2 for Vista.

Hm... are there any updates or anything for Crysis that help with the stuttering that happens every so often?
I turned down a lot of settings to help my frames to try to avoid this but seem to get them regardless...
anyone have any ideas? -
I think there's a common misconception about the performance yields of overclocking. You can't expect to give a Honda Civic Ferrari-like performance. The same holds true of laptops and their GPU's. OC'ing can slightly enhance your machines performance, but it won't turn your budget machine into Crysis FPS machine.
Short version: Feel lucky to gain 5 fps on your current settings. -
Ya, I'd say nTune as well for overclocking, it's just easier to use.
I would leave physics at medium as well with a 2.4. -
Are you calling meh computar a honda??!?!? lol
-
actually thats quite an accurate comparison lol
-
Those of us who have Ferraris would call it a Honda
Seriously though, I play Crysis with most settings on high, a couple on medium @ 1920x1200. I could push it with all high settings, but I like my framerate average to stay around 40.
rschauby said it, you will not get a very noticable performace increase overclocking your card. If you do decide to push it further though, make sure you start monitoring your temps and use a laptop cooler to help air flow.
GPUZ is a great little tool to monitor your GPU clocks, temps, load, etc. -
I hope you have a good notebook cooler, because that notebook will run hot running Crysis, not even overclocked.
-
Yea, I found a guide for keeping my computer performance high and new. I think that Ill just leave it alone (performance wise) I will end up building a gaming desktop after moving to Texas. Ill ask some of you guys for help when I do.
P.S. Can my pc be at least a Audi or BMW, I like those.
They are mid range performance cars. lol
-
why 40 fps?
your eyes can't see an improvement past 30fps -

omg... you really should read up on this.
Just because your eyes can't see certain things past 30 fps doesn't mean that a game will look smooth at 30 fps... so you CAN tell a difference. Here is a nice page that explains it all:

download nvidia system tools 6.02 to overclock and monitor temps.

this forum is turning into a diff. dispute... but the info is really helpful... thanks dude55
-
I apologize for keeping the subject off track, but I like pointing out the ignorance of.......I mean helping others become more knowledgable. I said I like to keep the game running at an average 40 fps. That means the frame rate is some times lower than 40 and sometimes higher. At it's lowest it may hit 30.....see what I am getting at? I guess it would have been easier to understand if i said I like to keep the minimum frate rate above 30
-
no need to get mean =(

hey sorry about that... I realize looking back at my other post that I might have been mean as well. Sorry!
Hoping you didn't take offense,

I guess I did come off a little harsh there brian.hanna. I do apologize + rep to ya.
-
Nope. Nearly impossible... Sorry.
Let me help you in this way - the most powerful laptop out there (at least for now) is the Alienware Area51 m17x...
Check it here;
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Test-Alienware-Area-51-m17x-Notebook.11348.0.html
And the performance chart for Crysis is here:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/typo3temp/pics/33dfccf558.gif
But the price of 3700 euros.... Well, it depends how much cash you are willing to spit for playing Crysis on High...
mine costed 1400 euros...
I managed to play it on mine Aspire 6920G at a "fluid" of 25-35 for all medium and shaders and water on very high. So the difference is not so great between a 8800GTX on SLI and my poor little 9500M GS... -
I got my laptop two days ago, it runs really quitely and comparitively cool. Your kind of wrong about it getting hot, I downloaded the EVGA precision tool and it tells me the hottest it gets is 65 degrees Celsius... Runs all high at 24 fps average. LOLOLOLOLOLOL
haha
-
I am very happy with my laptop. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP GUYS.
P.S.- How do I post my specs in my sig, it never works... -
Uh oh, don't tell the people with the Clevo D900's.
-
I never try and correct people who think Alienware laptops are "The most powerful" or else I would have said something earlier. I just like to let them go on thier merry way in thier own little world. Hopefully one day they will wake up
