Help with Battlefield 2

I just purchased an HP DV8000t laptop which runs 256mb NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600. It has a t2500 processor which is 2.0GHZ and 1GB of RAM. I had read a few places that people who had this near exact laptop were able to run BF2 successfully, yet whenever I try to run BF2 the screen goes black as if its about to start, but then it just goes back to my desktop. This would imply that the video card is not capable of running BF2, which I previously thought it was. Anybody have an idea of what is going on with it or what to do to solve this problem so that I can play BF2 on my laptop? Thanks a lot.

 

That graphics card should be able to run Battlefield 2 fine. I've heard reports of shadow problems with Nvidia cards so try downloading the latest drivers from nvidia or omegadrivers.net

 

I actually tried downloading drivers from both NVIDIA and OmegaDrivers.net. When I tried NVIDIA it said there were no current updates for my hardware and when I tried OmegaDrivers.net it said the drivers I would be installing were older than the ones currently on my system. So I'm pretty much clueless as to how to get BF2 working now.

 

Try to look on the HP website for support. If not, check any CD's they sent you. The 7600 should not have a prob running bf2.

 

Installing older drivers might help. The problem you described normally happens with cards that cannot run Battlefield 2 but a 7600 should be able to run the game at fairly high settings.

I know a few people had problems with Battlefield 2 with the desktop versions of the Geforce 7 cards.

 

I'd recommend the drivers from www.laptopvideo2go.com, they're the best for Nvidia cards. It appears that you have a driver issue more than anything.

 

my 7600go plays BF2 way better than my desktop. Make sure you do all the updates patches on bf2 as mine would not play right until all the patches were done, and now plays awesome on my A8JM with stock drivers.

 

I read somewhere else that screen refresh rates may be an issue. The only options that are given for screen refresh rates under my NVIDIA settings are 58MHz and 59 MHz, as opposed to 60MHz. Anyone know how this might effect it or what can be done to fix it? Thanks.

 

would the ati x1400 256 mb card with 2 ghz proccesor, and 1 gig of ram ( hopefully getting 2 soon) be able to run BF2

 

Please refrain from posting generic questions. If it meets the requirements, it can play the game. Judging by what you posted, it can.

BF2 can be quite buggy on installs. Try a complete uninstall. Reinstall the game. Reboot. Then download the entire patch to 1.3. Install, reboot. Then try to run the game.

I've had issues where it gets screwed up installing the patches and just randomly goes buggy. An uninstall and reinstall fixes it. Never been related to the video card for me.

If you search on BF2 forums, the issue you're having happens sometimes. Drivers is often the first thing checked, but after that, just uninstall/reinstall the game.

 

I have the same problem as tayloner182. I have the same graphics card that doesn't want to play battlefield 2. I even have better specs than tayloner182, 2GB ram T2600 processor 2.16GHz. However, Counter Strike Source plays with no flaws. I am perplexed with the battlefield 2 situation. I have uninstalled it, reinstalled it, uninstalled it again, reinstalled it with the 1.3 patch. And yet no success. I have to mention that I have tried downloading various nvidia drivers that should work with my card, even the driver directly posted by HP and still no success. Uninstall BF2, Reinstall BF2, Download 1.3 patch (FULL!!!!!), install patch try again.

Hmmm...have you done a full system restore?

I'm sure that's not entirely necessary, but you've got some type of initialization problem with that game then...and you could spend weeks trying to track it down. Or you could reload, install BF2 as soon as you get the OS and drivers(no other applications, at all). Do this all offline. Just try to play a singleplayer game of BF2. See if that works. If it does, go ahead and reinstall the rest of your stuff. If it stops, you know it's something else you're putting on. If not, then it was some type of driver corruption or registry entry from before.

It'd be nice to find out the exact cause...but let's face it...you could be banging your head against a wall for weeks on this. Is it worth it?

I would try running msconfig and services.msc and stopping any programs from loading and any services you don't need. I keep my number of running processes in task manager down to the mid 30's. Find some sort of minimum config where you can boot it, and go with that.

I've had the best luck with tweaksrus 84.56 drivers. They work on my 7900gs.

BF2 is the buggiest game I've ever played (I started gaming in 77 with pong) but it is a lot of fun.

 

Man that sucks, I hope you get it working, I was looking at that same laptop and it looks pretty sick, are you able to get other games to run at all or is this the only one you've tried?

 

After about a week of non-stop efforts, I finally got Battlefield 2 to run on my system. This is what I did Drqozn, maybe it will help you. After hours of talking to EA I talked to their senior support guy and he told me Battlefield requires a refresh rate of 60 hertz to run, however the only options for refresh rates are 58 and 59 hertz. I then emailed NVIDIA and asked them if 60 hertz should be an option for refresh rates with this card, to which they replied not only should it be an option, but it should be the standard or default option. So I then called HP and asked them how come this card did not have that refresh rate option, to which they acted like they had no idea what I was talking about for several days and through many different technical support phone operators. Come to find out, apparently the reason HP removes the 60 hertz refresh rate option is because it can cause the computer to overheat and they do not want to have to deal with the support and repair issues that may come with people running refresh rates at 60 hertz. So, eventually I just created a custom refresh rate of 60 hertz under Laptop Display of NVIDIA options, and also had to set the resolution to 800x600 for some reason to get it to work, but it finally did work, and now it plays perfectly. So I've had about a week of frustration, but now it is over and fixed. I hope you figure out your problem as well.

 

The refresh rate thing is strange...since LCD screens DON'T have a refresh rate. It doesn't apply. The technology of an LCD screen doesn't allow any kind of such measurement. A CRT of course, does...but think of how it works?

 

That's what the only knowledgable person I spoke to at HP said, but after talking to EA I decided to try it anyway and it worked. Maybe it was something completely unrelated that was wrong the whole time, but now it works at 60 hertz.

 

Yep, I've heard it before. I'm thinking it's just a weird driver affectation issue through DirectX. Leaves references to setting that 60hz refresh rate that most games default to...and when it can't? It goes nuts.

Hopefully it'll be addressed in the newer DX10 games.

 

I have an inspiron 6400, with 1gig of ram,Intel Core Duo processor T2400 (2MB Cache/1.83GHz/667MHz FSB), and a 256MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON X1400 HyperMemory video card(just got this last week). I just bought this game today and its not working at all for me. I've installed the v1.3 patch or w/e it was and that didn't work, i checked my screen refresh rate and its at 60 and i checked for updates for my driver and there aren't any. When i go to run the game in single player or online, the bf2 screen comes up but nothing else happens after that. I was wondering if anybody had any other suggestions that might make this game work.

For some reason, that is the only resolution it works at. It pretty much boggles my mind, but it plays great and I really do not want to think about anymore. Ha. At least it works now. So I'm happy.

 

I don't know at what stage of the installation you're at for the Omega drivers but if you read the instructions carefully, it says that installing older drivers is fine since the developer does make use of older drivers.

 

it has been 3 months now. i can still only play at 800x600 and on the medium settings. does anyone have an idea on how to beat this computer. any progress Tayloner?

 

i'm having the exact same problems. how do you create a custom refresh rate of 60, my only option is 61
