Not sure the actual cause but standard stuff.
> Update to new drivers if you have old ones, or try a different set of drivers. Make sure to do a clean install method.
> Do not use an illegitimate copy of the game or any no cd/hacks cracks that could cause it not to run properly
> Do a fresh install of the game -
thank your for quick reply but I have updated to new drivers from nvidia im using 195.62. I have a legitimate copy just bought it form best buy. I have been searching around still no answers on why the atmoshpere is all black somewhat washed out.

Thats well and good, but did you try a "clean" driver install or older drivers? Often new drivers will break an older game, even more so if they were just installed ontop of older drivers. So you really need to take the time to try that before any more advice can be given.
-
Which o/s are you using? XP, Vista, or 7? 32-bit or 64-bit?
-
Yes I ran a clean install with the drivers I have run the driver sweeper. On top of that I played call of duty modern warfare which runs pretty decent with the drivers I am using.
I am using windows vista 32 bit -
it's not night time in the game right? Had to ask, as it will use system time by default....
-
No. I have change the weather settings too which is on fair weather. So its definitely not a night time.

Have you done any tweaking of the games graphic settings?
On a AMD Turion 64 x2 with Nvidia Geforce Go 7200 Flight Simulator X with Service Pack 1 and Service Pack 2 installed it runs flawlessly at lowest detail.
(Service Packs are the patches for the game if anyones wondering).
You could also try updating DirectX. -
Are you using a 3rd party aircraft? Some aircraft are not compatible with different patches or version of the game.
try using different aircraft. And mess around with your 3d settings. Are you sure you are not flying at night? You can change it under the "time and season" tab. -
How Do i update my direct X?
OP. Im not using 3rd party aircraft im just using the basics one's which was already given. I will try to change my 3d settings hope it works. -
yeah, can only think it's a settings problem or hardware problem... do other games play properly I assume?
I'd go through and play with the in game display settings, has to be something there that's not right, as I've play FSX on 8600m's for a couple of years, and never had any problems. -

Have you installed Service Pack 1 and Service Pack 2?
*Note if you installed FSX Acceleration the service packs are unnecessary. -
Yes, I have installed service pack 1 and 2.
Anyways, I was messing with the settings and I finally had it where I can see the scenery. But the problem now is I am only getting 20 fps With the medium low settings how can I tweak this to get at least 25 fps? -

better video card would help too but FSX is actually more bound to cpu than gpu. The 8600GT is nothing to write home about and dual core is not so great at this game.
You can probably get 5fps more with some overclocking though. -
Luckily Flight Simulator X is quite playable even with low fps.
But you should try checking if its using DirectX 10.
Using DirectX 9 would boost fps a little.
(I dont own a DirectX 10 compatible gpu so i cant help you.)
