    Hi ppl,

    I have a E8410 spec below

    C2D T7300 2GHz
    3GB DDR2 667
    8400M G
    120GB 5400RPM
    WXGA LCD.

    Question 1 xD

Can I upgrade my CPU and GPU? if so, to what?

    Question 2

How will my laptop (pre-upgrade) handle Crysis Warhead and COD6?

    1. The GPU cannot be upgraded; the CPU can be but a faster CPU won't do you any good for gaming since the graphics card is so weak. The T7300 is a fast processor as it is.

    2. Crysis is a no-go; CoD 6 probably 1024x768 on low-med at best. Most newer games will not run or run very well I'm afraid . . .

You could get by with Crysis on 800 x 600 on all low settings. An Asus N10 with a 9400M G integrated and a Pentium Dual Cor can manage it. It may not be pretty, but you may just get it to work.

Modern Warfare 2 should be medium settings at 1280 x 800. My 3650 can max it without AA, so I'm guessing you'll fall just a little behind that.

Thanks for all your replies, people.

However, I have heard that you can swap out your laptop's GPU for a compatible one. Is that true? Saw it over at some other thread, forgot which one.

The only cards that allow that in the 8 series is the 8600M GT, and maybe the 8800M series if it's in certain laptops such as a Clevo.

Alienware and certain Acers as well it really depends on the format of the card and if the bios can accept it.

You could try using a Vidock (external graphics card) it would improve over the 8400m marginally.

Where to order: (pricey and requires an extra monitor)

That's too pricey. Is the E8410 MXM compatible?

btw, on a budget of around 200SGD, that's Singapore dollars, which upgrade will offer me the higher fps increases in fps/racing sim games?
    1.HDD 5400rpm to 7200rpm,
    2.Processor (if possible)
    3.3gb to 4gb ram (32bit vista)

    thx for all your help!

1- The HHD upgrade will only reduce loading time (No effect on the FPS)
2- The processor won't have a great effect on the FPS since you have an integrated GPU & integrated GPUs are pretty weak
3- The +1 gig of ram won't really have that much impact on FPS or overall performance in games since you won't be playing the extremely demanding games that may need that much ram because your bottleneck atm. is your GPU

The processor upgrade is the only reasonable option since it will help in the machine overall performance as well as slight increase in fps
