Hey guys, I just got a VAIO FW series with a 3650, but the only problem is it's underclocked. I tried to look at some guides here and there but I don't have PowerPlay OR Overdrive in my Catalyst Control Center for overclocking. I also checked out AMD GPU Clock Tool but it's really only a temporary fix and I don't like the idea of having my GPU forever at a decent speed. Any way to fix this?
    Thanks!

how do you know its underclocked? check it using gpu-z.

also, make sure your power settings are on high performance and you are plugged into the mains. when on bettery power the computer automaticly downclocks the GPU.

try riva tuner. theres a good guide on here for OCing:

also, update all your drivers before doing anything like that. you might notice a big performance increase.

I've been using GPU-Z so I'm pretty sure I have some idea I know what I'm doing. Notebookcheck says 3650's are usually at 600/700mhz core/memory clocks but I used GPU-Z to find that it's at 450/700mhz. I have the latest drivers from ATI, Catalyst 8.12, and tried riva tuner too, but there were no options to overclock or modify my clocks at all. If someone could hook me up with a good guide to overclocking using that program, it'd be awesome, but I overclocked a number of my friends laptops using riva. And yes, I have my laptop at high performance.

the speeds at Notebookcheck are for a certain ddr3 model of the hd3650 and not every model of 3650 has those same speeds like mine has 600,500 and others also vary.

also try using another program to check your speeds instead of gpu-z cuz its wonky sumtimes.
try everest or sumthin or press "get clock info" while playing a intensive game in amd gpu clock tool

also to overclock ur need to first download 8.10 or 8.9 catalyst then mod them to mobility versions using mobility modder and then set speeds with amd gpu clock tool

Thanks for the help you've given me, but I'm kinda stuck right now. My FW also has DDR3; I'll check out Everest. But I'm trying to get mobility modder to get 8.10 to install, but I'm stuck at a 1024x768 res, and every reboot gives me the message: the drivers failed to install. Any ideas?

EDIT: I did like suggested and ran AMDGPUCT in the background while playing TF2 windowed... it never went past 450 MHz. :[

Ok sorry for the double post but I just wanted to thank some guys and ask another question. I used AMDGPUCT to OC my GPU successfully and there was a huge FPS increase in Crysis Warhead and COD5 but is there anything I can do to not have to worry about fiddling with numbers ever again? Like a permanent overclock? I'm thinking about BIOS modding but are there safer alternatives? PS. Rivatuner doesn't have the customize button available to me; I still can't get Mobility Modder working and I'm stuck on 8.7 Catalyst.

Can you tell me the steps you are following in order to install the newer drivers with mobility modder ?

Oh okay never mind- I got how to do the mobility modder stuff, I'm on 8.12! But still, are there permanent fixes?

u dont wanna have 8.12 with the hd3650 i get much better frames and stablity plus the ability to overclock with 8.9 and 8.10 drivers.
u should download 8.10 then let them extract then stop the installation and run mobility modder and then find the folder of 8.10 like c/ati/support/8.10 and hit modify and then after thats done run the setup file in the 8.10 folder

8.11 and up drivers dont allow overclocking with amdgputool and right now its hard to find any other program that will let u overclock a mobility hd 3650.

also i think its wiser that u just apply the overclocked settings before running a game that you really need more fps in instead of making it your default boot settings because its way more safe and efficient

Okay, thanks for the help, everyone. I think I got it all figured out!
So I went down to 8.10, and now suddenly I have PowerPlay? Not that it matters. I used AMDGPUCT to get my clocks to 600/700 on high performance and it stays that way! I used the same program to measure it and it only goes up there when I'm using 3D apps! Again, thanks for all your help guys. Happy New Year.

if u press set clocks then those clocks will stay on and not change based on powerplay or more power demand

but if u have default clocks then they stay downclocked under normal use if powerplay is enabled and set to stock clocks when u use a 3d game

i dont think that amdgputool does what ur sayin. double check that your clocks stay low and then auto overclock to ur settings under use because mines stay at 110 and 400 underclocked and then go to stock 600,500 when i play a game and if i press set clocks then those clocks stay on no matter the usage

Hey yodawg, you're right... it just keeps the clocks constant. It kinda bugs me since I use my laptop out and around a bit and my battery life is at risk. Any programs that let my gpu rest in 2d? Rivatuner doesn't work for me, theres no option button next to my driver thing.

Is BIOS modding easy enough to do, and will it meet my needs?

yea rivatuner wont work, amdgppuclocktool is the only thing i know that can overclock the mobility 3650. powerplay lets u rest in 2d so i have it on but set to max performance on battery if i need it. i just overclock b4or during a game i play that i really need the extra fps in and put it on stock normally and it works great for me without stressing the gpu much and still provides gud battery life on the go.

i dont think bios modding is a good idea, another guy around here did it with his 3650 but got into some trouble.
also im wondering what are ur max overclocks?

Thanks, man. So I guess I'll just leave my gpu alone except for when I play stuff like Crysis, because I really don't think I need 105 fps on Team Fortress 2 or Unreal Tourny 3.
Max overclocks? Well, my main concern was that Sony freakin' underclocked it so I just wanted to get it back up to where it was supposed to be. I've never pushed it so high that my computer crashed or I found artifacts, but the highest I went was 800/950.
