I have no clue what I am doing. How do I overclock my X1400. I've been looking over the settings everywhere, I installed the latest Omega drivers, so I have the traytools or whatever it is. Anyways, if someone could help me with this could you either post or PM me with your yahoo/msn name. Thanks
Edit: With the TrayTools 1.2.6.940 in the system tray, I right click on it, move my mouse to hardware, it says "overclocking disabled" And it is greyed out.

I updated to the very newest Tray Tools in the recent thread that is up. I can now access the Overclocking options, however, how much should i overclock without blowing up my vid card or whatever. Thanks

I TAKE NO RESPONCIBILITY IF YOU DESTROY YOUR COMPUTER. FOLLOW THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!!!
Start by downloading either ATI Tools or ATI Tray Tools.
Once you do that start by raising your core clock by 5-10 mhz at a time then running 3DMark05. Repeat raising it by 5-10 mhz and then running 3DMark untill you begin to see artifacts (strange screen distortions). Once you reach that point, back off by 15-20 mhz.
Repeat this process but instead of raising the core clock, raise the memory clock. Once you see artifacts back off!.
Good luck. -
When I overclocked my X1400, I started off with stock clocks at 432/392, and was able to overclock it quite well. Somewhere in the area of 540/500. Follow what TV said above, that's how I got my highest clocks.
I have since gone back to stock clocks though, as the card performs well enough for what I want. -
Earlier today I went into tray tools. It said that the Current speeds were a lot lower than normal (the bars were all the way down). I tried raising them back up to normal but I got what you called "artifacts". I got scared so I turned off my computer immediately. Is this because I turned it up too fast?

That was probably because you were in power saving mode so parts of the card were turned off and the clock was drastically lowered. So you put it through more than what its capable of in power save. Just turn off powerplay in your ATI options or just set it to max power when you're plugged in. (I have it set to max when I'm plugged in and never unplug when I overclock)

Okay, is PowerPlay bad? Should I keep it on when I don't feel like overclocking it?
also, is it possible to cause permanent damage if you try to overclock it without enough energy going to the card? -
Powerplay puts your video card into a low power mode to save battery life. Its by no means bad, it extends your battery life. You just shouldnt overclock with it on.
