    Hey guys!

I want to play some Starcraft over wireless with some colleagues of mine, but they can't really connect to my game. They can all see the game I created, but when clicking on it, the game freezes for a second and then: "Could not connect to game".

We're running XP Pro SP2 over a Time Capsule ad-hoc network.
We've played COD4, Unreal Tournament, and some other games.
Starcraft seems to be the only one that doesn't work over our wireless.

Oh and yes, firewalls are all down, and IPX protocols are installed.

    Any advice, please?

    Thanks!

Probably need specific ports open? I dunno for your setup but I know to go online in battlenet I had to open ports before I could host games, but I could join games just fine.

Also if your all sharing the same game... thats probably why, you need unique cd keys.

We can't really go online, we are on a cruise ship, so that's why we have the ad-hoc wireless network.

So we can't join our games in IPX/LAN because we have the same cd-keys?

That might be it, lol. Same cd key ? :D
You definitely need different ones. But it`s not like you can`t get Starcraft for 5 bucks on the net now.

No, you don't. Starcraft does not require you to have unique CD keys to play over LAN. Have you tried using UDP?

I think he already said he disabled the firewalls. Check your IP addresses to make sure they are on the same subnets. I have very little experience in ad hoc networks, but I do suggest you make sure you are on the same subnets and also check to see you are using the same version.

Can you see each other's share folders? That has more to do with NetBios, but at least we can rule out whether you two can actually see each other.

And yes. Try the UDP network option, instead of IPX.

While I forgot the part with the firewall, it seems like your forgot that his friends can see the game he created meaning that they can see his computer.

To the OP: Does that happen too when you change the game host?

Okay so just to answer your questions:

Yes we can play other games like COD 4 and Unreal Tournament, so the network is fine.

That means the XP firewall is down, and also we can see shared folders and flick files both ways.

When somebody creates a game in Starcraft, everybody can see it, but when they click join, the game (mouse) freezes for a second and then the "Unable to connect to game" message appears.

We tried different people hosting the game as well, same outcome.

So what's UDP, how do I do that instead of IPX??

I'm about to start reading those blizzard support pages, but thanks for all your input you guys, if you have any other ideas, please let me know!

    Cheers! :D

You'll need to update your starcraft version to the latest, which supports UDP networks. UDP is a network protocol similiar to TCP/IP. It's another way to start a LAN party game instead of the old IPX.

After you click "Multiplayer" and "Expansion", you get to the screen where you can select Battle.net East, Battle.net West, IPX, UDP, and some other things.
