Can someone help me? I've got an Acer Extensa 4620-4605, with a T2310 (Dual core 1.46GHz) and I'm trying to play some games on Vista

I've got the newest drivers, and I'm running Vista in Classic Mode (IE no Aero effects). Anyway, I'm trying to play the original Half Life off Steam. When I start playing, everything seems fine, but then I turn on the in game flash light, and the FPS drops down to under 14

I also tried playing Beyond Good and Evil, and it seems slow and glitchy as well

Am I missing something in the configuration process? Everything should be at their defaults

Thanks in advance for the help

Edit: I was playing in 1280x800. I dropped it down to 640x480, and the max it would go was 18FPS

I have that same weird problem with my integrated graphics (GMA 3000, it really sucks :() card (desktop); even half life 1 lags, like you said, with flashlight and some other lighting effects. I think it's the integrated card's fault.

actually, i think it has something to do with crappy drivers

i remembered way back when... i used to have intel integrated i815 graphics, and it had the same problem in OpenGL, i'm disappointed how they haven't addressed it even till now

i suggest you try running it in Direct3D instead of OpenGL, you may not get as high frames as in OpenGL, but it's more consistent.

hope that helps (my geforce4 mx440 still pwns the x3100, shows how little technology has come along)

The X3100 just wasn't meant for gaming. Real 3D stuff isn't in the cards (no pun intended) for IGP's. Still, I would have thought that HL1 would be alright.

You can try updating your drivers, find beta drivers or experimental stuff by other people but I can't guarantee it'll work. Were talking here about original HL1? Not the updated with Source engine?

Can you tell me what kind of FPS you're getting when using the flashlight?

To see, go into the console by pressing "~", and then type "cl_showfps 1" and it should come up on the screen
