Howdy, first time posting here. If this is the wrong forum for this, I'm sorry.
I have an older model laptop...the Inspiron 9100. Embarassing I know. It has worked wonderfully these last few years, bought it in august 3 years ago. It's done great for me at school my first year, although being a bit bulky and having loud fans made it slightly embarassing in class. I have played every game ive tried to run on it, even bf2142 and WH: MoC, although at low settings.
Yesterday, however, as i was playing DAoC, a game I've been playing for years with no trouble, the graphics exploded. That's the only way i can explain it. Was in the middle of a skirmish when the colors fractured. The only other time I've seen this is when the screen broke in storage on an airplane years ago, so naturally i was worried.
When I turned the laptop back on, there didn't appear to be anything wrong, but I decided to let the laptop rest for a night. So I played today, and was playing for a good 2 hours when the same thing happened. This time however, when i turned the laptop back on, even windows is graphically challenged and experiencing a haze. Pixels are scattered. This only happens, however, after a few seconds.
At first i thought it was overheating, but when i allowed the notebook to cool down and booted it back up, the same thing happened after about a minute. This may point to heating, but not sure and have never had problems with overheating before.
I did notice that my battery is not charging past 85% for some reason. Perhaps the card isn't getting enough power?
Just wondering if anyone could help me out...and hopefully tell me that I don't need a new graphics card.![]()
The irony in all this is that the last few weeks i have been reading these forums and researching laptops, though in the end i decided to wait til winter and the 8800 to do so.

You are probably getting artifact due to heat or an issue with the video card drivers.

I suggest that you monitor your temps with this guide and clean out your vents/fans and look at the cooling guide
Also update you video card drivers if you havent done so (try using third party drivers).

The problem is resolved now. Dell's online chat support is wonderful and amazing. It's amazing how much more clarity one gets when using words that can't inflect accents.
I'm happy to announce that I do not need a new video card, but I'm not going into details because it will just make me feel more embarrassed than I already am.
Thanks anyways Kdawgca. -
