I know theres a few threads on this because I did search, but I still had questions, so bear with me please. I have an HP dv2000.

I downloaded the .exe for the 1.59 driver from the intel site. Do I just run that and it does everything for me? Or do I have to uninstall my current ones?

Also how do I adjust how much memory it has access to? And what is optimal? I have 3 gigs of ram, so I figure I can easily allocate a fair bit.

    Thank you

I have always installed the newest Intel driver over the existing one and it seems to work OK. The graphics RAM is normally allocated automatically by the BIOS.

Yes you can just install it and it will overwrite the old one.

Memory for the x3100 is dynamically allocated

    "dynamically allocated"?

So it will just use more when it needs it?

You don't need to adjust anything. The driver allocates more memory(up to 384) when needed. If you want to force it to use more or less memory go to the Intel Control Panel-> Graphic Properties->3D Settings->Driver Memory Footprint.

    Edit: Oops...slow typing again..

Would there be any reason to force it?

Usually, no. For browsing, some gaming and stuff it's not necessary. I don't force it. Maybe if you do heavy video edit or something..
