    Hi:

This is a bit of an odd question, but I was wondering how a x1400 on a laptop would compare to the x800XL on my desktop in terms of performance. I would hope that any laptop I buy will have similar graphics capabilities to my desktop. And if they are not equivalent, what is the laptop equivalent of an x800XL?

I'd say something in the range of the X1800 or 7800/7900 would be the equivalent. the X1400 isn't a slow card, but it's not going to be close to your desktop's performance. You'll only get those faster cards in a 17" laptop of course. For 15.4" and below, the best you can do is a X1600/Go7600. You'll just have to live with your laptop not being quite as fast as a higher spec desktop like you have.

The X800XL funnily enough does not support some of the newer features that the X1400 does, but it's still a far better card. A notebook equivilent, I'd say Pitabred is fairly accurate in his estimation.

The Radeon X800XL, although it is older than the X1400 as posted, will crush the X1400 when it comes to 3D power and performance. Pitabred is right in that you would need a Go7800/X1800 to match it.

wow, a go7800 is only equivalent to the desktop x800xl?

    that's pretty sad...

what is the equivalent of a desktop gpu compared to the go 7900gtx 512mb?

The desktop equivalent of the Go7900GTX 512MB is about a 7900GT/7950GT.

I think you are rather underestimating the power of the X800XL.

Haha, thanks guys for the dose of reality - for a while there I was thinking that maybe the x1400 was just a little below the x800XL :D But do you guys think that the x1400 will be able to handle Warcraft 3, Vista Aero, and any new Blizzard games (yes, I only exclusively play games by Blizzard).

I would also like to ask, given that I will only be doing the above graphics related tasks, do you think a x1400 will last for 3 years?

wow, the 7900 gtx go is so powerful

yes the x1400 can max out all options in WC3, work with vista areo, don't know about future blizzard (rumor theres going to be diablo 3 so that might require uber gpus)

you'd need a x1600/x1700/7600/7700 if you plan to game for 3 years (with the last year playing med-low setting)

x1400 can only play med setting on FEAR, so in 3 years, it will probably be low-lowest on the newest games

heck, i'd be happy to play cyris on lowest of low which comes out soon

    Dang it..........

I really like the LG P1-J003A9, but the graphics card is the only thing that worries me. From current trends, it seems like future games will be so demanding. I was sort of hoping that future Blizzard games would be relatively low-demanding graphics wise.
