Alright, so, even though Heroes of Might and Magic II is pretty ancient, I still love the game (although it's not the only game I play nowadays).

I just got a brand new computer and switched over to Windows 7 from Windows XP.

The game when I try to run set-up won't install and tells me my Windows version won't work.

I tried running compatibility mode to the disk for XP SP2, but it didn't work.

Since I already had Windows 7 professional I installed XP mode and the game would install, but immediately give me an error report when I tried to run it.

Are there any more options for this? I'd really rather not have to keep a spare computer with Windows XP on it for running this game every once in a while.

i love heroes of might and magic II. The problem is it's a 16 bit game which means nil support on a 64 bit operating system. Tiger why dont you try installing xp and windows 7 on the machine and enable a dual booting capability. just boot to windows xp when you wanna play anything 16 bit. That should work.

heroes of might and magic III was the peak of the series tho, imo.

Infact I have a customized version of windows xp called Tiny XP it only takes 250MB to install and has all the extra services and everything except basic things stripped. It has support for basic audio, graphics drivers, ethernet/wireless and not much else. It boots incredibly fast. If you wanna know where to find it just PM me.

If I'm not mistaken, Heroes II was actually supposed to be run as a DOS game. Which means it works with DOSBox. I distinctly remember DOSBox working when I tried running Heroes II on my Vista x64 install. Give that a try!

The set of disks I have for that game were scratched, so I've been putting off getting new ones, but I'm definitely interested in trying it again. By GoG do you mean gog.com? (Did a quick google search.)

EDIT: Alright, yep, you must've meant gog.com. I noticed Heroes II: Gold was on there but I have some concern over how I heard that being able to buy ghosts in the expansion killed it. I'm assuming I could still go back and play all the old maps anyways as if I never had the expansion though.

Alright, thanks for the tip! I'll try to look into more options with that.
