I went to an internet cafe today, saw some people playing a game that has the EXACT same map layout as DOTA, figured out it was a dota clone and I read about it and it was! Anyone here playing it? Thoughts, ideas? Anyone wanna donate a beta key if you have an extra?![]()

I dont have any extra beta keys, ive been playing it for about a month now, its pretty fun to be honest.
-
would u say better than TFT dota?
-
Not sure im the right guy to compare them since ive never played dota (was playing demigod before that) but im sure a lot of Dota players jumped into HoN beta since its pretty much the same game
-
no way better then the real tft dota as i read, a lot of unbalance issues
-
well, its still beta..
Thats what betas are for.
-
Well I've been playing DOTA since it's Beta days when Eul was still updating it... I miss those times
-
My buddy from work got me into it. It's good for a laugh.
But by god, you'd better be an expert as soon as you start! They do NOT take well to "noobs" in that game! You will get your @ss chewed off for not having played since the day it went beta!
I've been playing for a couple weeks, and I still "suck" compared to everyone else, and even though I play in "Noobs Only" games, I still get people raging at me for sucking so bad.
Apparently, it's a really emotionally intense game, and I'm just a robot? -
Theres quite a few standalone DOTA clones that all look pretty cool. I can't remember the names of the others right now
-
If you're playing a private game, and you're not good, you better be ready for some intense flaming!!
Apparently there's 2 more clones that are coming out soon: one is called LOCO, and BoK

Still no beta keys guys? Im trying league of legends right now, will let you guys know what I think

Still, tft dota is the best, even tho it doesn't have those eye candys, its still the best balanced game, and just wait until icefrog and valve finish their work. Did i mention about it?
The DotA developer IceFrog will apparently be leading a team at Valve and using his position to help do more for the DotA world. The announcement was made via his blog at playdota.
DotA developer IceFrog has announced via his blog that he will be leading a team at Valve and as a result be in a position resource-wise to do more for the DotA community. IceFrog has had the reigns of DotA since 2005 when Steven "Guinsoo" Feark left to work at Riot Games on the LoL (League of Legends: Clash of Fates) game which is in closed beta and will see a release around October 27th this year supposedly.
DotA is also seeing real competition on the horizon in the form of HoN (Heroes of Newerth) which is being developed by S2games and Demigod. With so many games threatening to fragment the community the future of this genre has been a topic of recent discussion as seen in a piece over on gameriot.
Questions over whether or not StarCraft II could be a possible future home for DotA were answered by IceFrog in a Q&A he did:
"I've been actively exploring several options for some time now. Starcraft 2 might not necessarily have what DotA needs to become a better game. Moving to any new engine presents various challenges that need to be considered."
Speaking about the move to Valve in his blog IceFrog added:
"My goal and top priority in the future is to solve the surrounding issues that affect the DotA experience in order to allow it to reach new heights. Addressing these issues will enable us to further enjoy aspects of DotA such as the gameplay, mechanics, and in-game feel that currently work well and ought to be maintained. As I've said many times in the past and especially after today's developments, I am very excited about DotA's future!" -
Yeah I'm trying to play league of legends right now and I can't join any games... really frustrating and not easy to just "pick up and play" for beginners
-
Really different interface.. not really liking it at all. I really prefer Warcraft 3's interface A LOT more than this.. still going to keep tryign it.
-
Final verdict: Uninstalling it right now.

I've been playing HoN for some months now and I really like it. In fact, it can be quite addictive. And yeah, it's true that the community is one of the worst I've seen for a game even though you can meet some nice people.
The problem with the game is that it has a steep learning curve so if you are playing for the first time, it will be hard. (but you might not have this problem since you've played DotA before) I think the devs are going to implement a tutorial before the release of the game.
Unfortunately, I don't have any keys left. -

Heard that League of Legends is way more "friendly" that HoN.
And its F2P too so you dont really lose anything exept some minutes of your life.
But its not the same as WC3 TFT Dota maps. -
Don't like spells, the game developers have a philosophy of keeping the game "fast paced" so all nuke spells are almost the same, with 4 secs cooldown. Not very fun at all. -
I played both LoL & HoN beta (bought HoN) and as much as I wanted to love HoN (especially that I already paid for it) I just couldn't! League of Legends community rocks and Riot Games took the dota formula and improved on it with summoner spells, runes system, having recall spell for all champions (save time teleporting back to base) and the shop system is REALLY good. I honestly can't go back to dota or HoN after LoL, playing all the time since beta, can't even make time to play great games I have like Dragon Age and many others! yes.. it's THAT good imo!
-
I play HoN too. At first I thought it was going to be boring and thats exactly what I thought but the problem was that I had no clue how to play it. After some time playing it, I found it very addictive.
I have some spare beta keys, I'll PM you one. -

Ahh, try LoL instead.
It's the creators of the original DotA who created this game.
Heres the EU version: http://www.lol-europe.com/
HEres the American: http://www.leagueoflegends.com/playnow/?redirect=http://www.leagueoflegends.com/ -

I've played only two rounds of league of legends and my first impressions were not very good. I found the gameplay to be slow paced (compared to HoN) and perhaps a bit too "noob friendly". I'm not a pro, and I don't think I'm really good at DotA/Hon/LoL but some gameplay changes that LoL made don't suit me. Some exemples : you can't deny your own creeps or towers in LoL (those who played DotA or HoN will know what I'm talking about) and you don't lose gold when you die.
Moreover I don't really like the system of bonuses implemented in the game. (I think you gain some permanent bonuses after playing for some time which gives you an unfair advantage over newer players). I'm not sure about this though.
This is just my opinion, I have nothing against LoL players -
Wow :| is the difference that big? Then im definatly sticking to dota.

DOTA wasn't created by Icefrog (Current developer) or by Guinsoo (one who doing LoL). It was created by Eul who resided on thewarcenter.com forums. Eul eventually gave up after The Frozen Throne came out (or Halo2) and stopped developing. After a short while, a new developer from the warcenter took over the original DOTA, while Guinsoo kinda ripped off DOTA. He technically stole the map and made it his own, and in the beginning he didn't give any credit to Eul for actually giving birth to that map and making it the phenomenon on RoC that it was.
I've been playing HoN all day. Some heroes like Pebble are super overpowered, but that's exactly what DOTA Allstars was in its early stages of development. Everything was overpowered till guinsoo decided to calm down and balance everything. -
-
i actually love HoN its a welcomed change from TFT all while maintaining some level of balance
i got a free beta key when registration was open for the xmas holiday -
Played DotA for years, then went to LoL. I didn't like the interface and I couldn't understand what to do at first.
I got my handed to me several times, until some friends started playing. Then I started to get the hang of it, the menu, masteries, runes etc and boy is LoL an awesome game.
I also went ahead and played HoN and it was almost the same horrible experience as with LoL: The menu was weird, I didn't know what do to and blargh. After playing some games, and getting yelled at by everyone, I realized how carbon copy of DotA the game is, and how bad the items menu is for newcomers.
HoN was not a very fun experience, even today, for me. League of Legends has given me countless hours of fun, with a much fast paced gameplay and maps, much better inventory and item store system, and an overall better community.
Took me a bit of time, but now I am a competent LoL player, and I can no longer get back to DotA or HoN without ranting. -
Dota and HoN are essentially clones, with some interface changes/character changes. Even the graphics somewhat resemble dota. LoL is quite a bit different, in that they've implemented something that carries over from game to game, more of an rpg'ish feel since there's persistent data carried over.
Heroes of Newerth!?!!?
