I highly recommend this game to any LoL and DoTA players. Hardcore like DoTA, improved graphics and engine like LoL (but not cartoony like LoL).

they want to make more money. therefore it went "free" they are now like lol as in they charge for premium content.

i prefer it over lol because it is more like dota, where last hit and deny mattered and more fast paced action. but it does have a mode where deny doenst matter.

the reason I think HoN went f2p because they couldn't compete with LoL. I agree some people might like it, I loved dota playing in matches or just friendly, tried LoL in beta Loved how different and they put their own uniqueness in. Played HoN (exact copy of dota) I got bored of the game really easy but have friends who still play and have fun half of them moved to LoL but now since its f2p I would try it out to see if you have fun with it. It was fun but their characters seem a little imba now. :(

Yes...will jump ship to DoTA 2 as soon as available. Shouldn't be too long. It's becoming LoL.

Millions of people. At any given point in time there is almost 1.5 million people playing LoL as long as the servers are up that is ;)

The recent catastrophic server failure they had also might of expedited the push to free. I'm glad to see ppl recommending both lol and hon mutually though...usually their respective fan bases rabidly bombard any thread they can with hate.

I wish them well, but like everyone else - my eyes are on valve

I was a longtime Warcraft 3 DOTA player, and so I tried HoN back when it was beta. For some reason I just couldn't get into the art style and the complexity of the interface (that's serious considering I'm an EvE player). When LoL came out, I was really impressed with how they streamlined everything. I still play LoL fairly regularly.

I reinstalled HoN today to give it another chance, and after 3 games I just couldn't handle it anymore. There is something about the UI that bothers the hell out of me.

I feel like I'm piloting a MechWarrior style mech in HoN, and I feel like I'm playing Quake when I play LoL. I'm sure if I spent a few more days acclimating to HoN, things would turn out better, but considering I'm already having a great time playing LoL, I don't see the point.

Well at least you have a legacy account now which can't be purchased anymore. Probably cheaper in the long run anyways.

Lord Of The Rings Tripled Its Revenue By Going Free-To-Play

This is why almost everything is going free to play. It's the new gaming model: create a decent game and add an item shop. Micro transactions is the future of gaming. Sony PS3 and MS Xbox are currently scrambling to find a way to incorporate this gaming model on their platforms.

They'll just put out "Valve game" on their main page and get all the players from HoN and LoL move there

It's kind of ironic how they make more money out of "free" 2 play games.

the "free to play" route became very popular in the recent years. it lures players to try out the game and if they really like it, a good percentage will end up purchasing premium content (and premium content aint cheap).

^ Solid fact. It works so well that I feel stupidly happy and guilty at the same time, right after a purchase. :(

age of empires online is the next huge game to be released that is f2p. that will get alot of ppl to pay for premium content such as myself lol.

if hon started out as f2p nobody would be playing lol right now. (thats just my opinion, im a die hard dota nerd and played dota hardcore in htgn pro)

Because it's Savage Games. You can look up every game this company has made. After a few years, they make all their games free. HoN I expected to be no different. When they start their next game, I'm sure HoN won't even have premium content, completely free, wouldn't surprise me.
