Hello all am new here just need some help with something I have a laptop M1530 and I installed windows 7 on to it (used to have windows vista on it) everthing works fine but my dvd rewriter drive ( Optiac DVD+-RW AD-7640A ATA is not working right and just wonding if there any updated drivers for it and I have an Geforce 8600 GT it should play GTA4 prefect but I have to run the game on really low graphices and it still lags abit but other dx10 games works fine with max graphices at 1200x pix like lost planet, eve online,nfs,007 game that just came out would the gta 4 game run better on windows vista or there a fauilt with something.

It says on graphice information here

    system information here

is there some how i can make it so it would use some of the total available graphices memory? because its only using the 256 the laptop as 4gbs ddr3 memory in it atm too

    Hi and welcome to nbr
GTA4 is quite a demanding game and my 9800GT struggled a few times.
i notice from your screen shot you are running 32bit so you will only be able to see and use roughly 3.1gb ram

when you double click on my computer can you see your cd/dvd drive there.
is so try this: right click on it and press properties > press hardware > properties > does it say this device is working properly. even if it does go to driver at top of page and press update driver and see if that works.

Like MrDJ said, your os is limiting you a bit, the game is very hardware intensive, GTA4 from my understanding also eats alot of cpu power too if im not mistaken. Now the 8600 is roughly only 1 generation better then the graphics card in the ps3, and on ps3 the game is running on low. Your card might be able to handle slightly better then low I suspect. also if your card only has 512mb of vram that will hold back the game too.

Also DX10 if used correctly can run games more efficiently leading to better performance if coded right, I have a feeling thats the case here. GTA4 is kinda like crysis, a hog just to be a hog, and when it comes to lappies its near impossible to upgrade them, might aswell sell it locally, drop another 500-1000 on something a bit newer if you'd like to see some sparkle or buy a desktop.
