    hey guys,
I have recently been in the market for a new gaming laptop. I want to know what the performance increase is between the Nvidia GeForce 7900GS and the ATI Radeon Mobilty x1900. Is there a big peroformance increase between the two. Well yeah thanks for your answers

In 3Dmark 05 and 3dMark 06, the x1900 scores right below the 7900gs however I read that it's actual gaming performance is slightly higher than that of the 7900gs.

In 3dmark05 it scores higher than the 7900gs , in 3dmark06 it scores lower.

In gaming performance it is between the 7900gs and 7900gtx but definitely closer to the 7900gs.

It was heavily underclocked to not get heat.

I overclock my x1800 back to default speeds and can play 512 meg video card games at perfect resolutions on it. In vista.

At default speeds my x1800 is just as fast as a 7900gs. 6000 3dmark05 score.

Get the x1900, get a good cooling pad, and overclock it back to default speeds. It will crush the competition.

Probably be as fast as a 7900gtx. Or faster.

Best part of all is, as long as you have a great cooling pad, don't worry about it dying early. Components die when you overclock them because you making them go faster then they were meant to.

My x1800 was, by factory default, meant to go at 450 core, 500 memory. The companies underclocked it to 375 core, 425 memory.

So by restoring it to factory default, you are getting a huge boost, and you won't kill your system.

i will have to try and see if your theory is correct maybe over the weekend...or maybe maybe when the drivers come out for it :)...i do have a cooling pad and thankfully one of the fans sit directly underneath the gpu fan so its feeding it cold air :) so overclocking (putting it back up to original ati levels) should be interesting :)

what kind of temps are you getting now with stock settings on the x1900? I heard that the temps are already pretty high on stock, and you start artifacting fairly early in the overclock stages...but that was a while back on a test unit, so I'm not sure if that still holds true or if that was just rumor.

edit: actually come to think of it, I strongly advise against zellio's suggestion of restoring your x1900 to default settings, since those heat signatures are meant for desktops. In theory, with proper cooling, it wouldn't be a problem, but heat dissipates much differently on laptops, even with cooling pads. That's why many laptops with cooling pads have overall lower temperatures, but the max temperatures on load are still somewhat in the same range of value (maybe a few degrees cooler at most). I suggest you overclock in increments and MONITOR and POST your findings. Rereading some threads a while back, it seems you really couldn't overclock the x1900 much without it artifacting anyway.

i will take what you say and put it to good use :) i wont be able to monitor the graphics cards temp due to lack of temp readings on ati cards...but hopefully it will yield some good results :)...although it maybe a while before i game again...i have exams around the corner so i have to put all of that on hold...
